"Worker was on time/early. Prepared with all tools, etc. Knew about my concern for some of my older windows, etc. from my initial talk with boss! Very thorough power wash! Worker had some good ideas for "problem" areas, since my house has older siding!! Left all my windows without water marks. The wash reached all the high points of house and garage. Job well done"

"The project could not have gone better. Ian was open to letting me help, which kept the cost down. He was great to work with, friendly and informative. He knew what he was doing and helped suggest the best products for the job. I'm very please with the way the deck turned out--the railing system in particular looks terrific."

Fencing questions, answered by experts

In Pullman, a well-built fence will have posts set below the frost line to prevent shifting during freeze-thaw cycles, with concrete footings tailored for the region’s clay soils. Fencing should follow city height and setback rules, even on sloped Palouse terrain, with straight, level lines. Gates must swing inward, latch securely, and hardware should be rust-resistant to withstand Pullman’s variable weather.

Helpful?

Homeowners in Pullman often overlook calling 811 before digging, risking utility line damage, or skip required permits, leading to project delays. Common errors include setting posts too shallow for the local frost depth, using untreated wood that deteriorates in the Palouse climate, and ignoring HOA or neighborhood guidelines. Failing to address hillside drainage or property line accuracy can also create long-term issues.

Helpful?

In Pullman, backyard fences often require attention due to privacy needs and property line clarity, especially near WSU or rental-heavy areas. Pool enclosures must meet safety standards, while gardens benefit from deer-resistant fencing. Sloped yards on the Palouse may need repairs to stepped or racked sections, and corner lots frequently require reinforcement where foot traffic and snow buildup are common.

Helpful?

Pullman’s hilly landscape means steep slopes and drainage patterns often require custom fence designs, such as stepped panels. Clay-heavy soil and rocky areas can complicate post installation. Properties near WSU or in historic neighborhoods may face additional zoning restrictions. Large trees, existing outbuildings, and shared boundaries with neighbors can further increase the complexity of fencing projects in Pullman.

Helpful?

For Pullman’s climate, cedar and pressure-treated pine are ideal for resisting rot and moisture, while composite fencing handles temperature swings with minimal upkeep. Aluminum and vinyl-coated chain link perform well in wet conditions, and powder-coated steel offers extra strength. Always use galvanized or stainless steel fasteners, concrete formulated for freeze-thaw cycles, and weatherproof stains to ensure durability through Pullman’s seasonal changes.
