Customers say: True professional

"Project was going to be installation of exterior Christmas lights on a 50" Pine tree located in the front yard. Unfortunately, we did not pursue this due to emergency family matters. Contractor was very professional, polite and thorough. Should we take this project up again in the future we will contract him."

"I had a good experience with Mr. Handyman of Kennewick–Walla Walla. Bryan repaired my door jamb and casing and also helped with a couple of kitchen drawers at no additional charge. He was knowledgeable, explained what he was doing, and the door is now working properly. I appreciated the extra help and would consider using them again."

"I cannot say enough good things about these guys. Chaz and his mate- so sorry, did not catch his name, were excellent in every way and worked very hard until the job was done. They were early to the job ( hugely important to me- not to be late) and were gracious when it became obvious I had seriously under estimated how much I needed them to do. They were considerate as well, easy to talk to and worked well with my husband who has moved many ,many times and made himself a 3rd Dream Team member-all good. They were organized and careful with my new office space that had new paint and new flooring. I would and will hire them again to do some of the other services they offer, including maybe some Holiday lights!! I would have loved to keep them around all day, they would have made the rest of the days chores much easier I'm sure. Just a Great experience and my first, definitely not my last Angie's List hire."

Holiday Decorating questions, answered by experts

String LED lights are the best lights to use on a palm tree, as they’re long-lasting, energy-efficient, and won’t go out if a single bulb stops working.

Yes, you must use an extension cord specifically rated for outdoor use to power outdoor lights, such as Christmas lights. Extension cords intended for indoor use lack the protective properties to withstand exposure to outdoor elements. To safely hang and power lights outside your house or in your yard, always connect them to an outdoor power source using an outdoor-rated extension cord.

For a 7-foot-tall column, choose a light strand that is at least 32 feet long. You’ll also need to measure the distance from the column to the closest outlet to get outdoor extension cords that are the right length.

First of all, don’t shop for bargain lights—often, you’ll end up with a faulty or broken strand, full of dead bulbs or less-than-luminous brightness. Choose quality lights that will last you many years—LED lights have been known to last as long as 100,000 hours. Second, plan ahead and purchase lights for next year’s Christmas during this year’s post-holiday sales. Finally, have a vision and a plan—if you know the measurements of your home, including any windows, doors, and outside bushes you wish to light up, you should be able to only purchase the necessary lights and not more than you need.

There is no formal date for Christmas light removal, but January 2 is a standard day to take them down for many homeowners. However, some homeowners’ associations have strict rules around this topic, mandating that residents remove lights no later than two weeks after Christmas. Check with your local association or community for more information.
