"The housecleaning portion of the job was done very well. They cleaned out my fridge, oven, microwave, walls, bathrooms were gorgeous. Impressed. A few spots missed but overall very good. The windows also looked the best I had seen them in years, very nice! The only part I was not happy with was the carpet cleaning. Do not recommend their carpet services. There were tons of spots and stains that were left behind. It felt like all they did was get the carpets wet. I made them come back in and redo the areas with the upholstery tool and it did a little better, but still lots of spots left behind. I had another company come out and do the carpets and all those spots came up. Good cleaning, bad carpets."

Carpets do best with non-abrasive cleaning solutions either purchased at the store or made at home. You can apply solutions of salt, water, vinegar, or baking soda to your carpet or choose a carpet-safe cleaner. Never mix the two. In between deep cleans, vacuuming twice a week should do the trick for a clean carpet.

Anything that might have been exposed to fumigation chemicals should be washed before use. Wipe down and sanitize surfaces like countertops and tables, and wash all utensils (or take care to store them in an airtight box beforehand), as well as anything else that could find its way into someone’s mouth, like kid or pet toys. 

Eventually, vomit odors will go away on their own. However, it can take weeks for that to happen—unpleasant weeks. Using baking soda or commercially available carpet cleaner according to product directions will speed up the process. 

Typically, you should avoid using a traditional carpet cleaner on Oriental rugs because the chemical makeup of carpet cleaners can damage the rug’s natural fibers. You can, however, opt for a neutral pH cleaner, which can do a decent job of cleaning the carpet without damaging it. Always test whatever cleaning solution you use on a small, hidden spot of your rug first. That way, if any damage occurs, it doesn’t totally ruin your rug.

The formula for neutralizing skunk smell is one quart of 3% hydrogen peroxide, ¼ cup baking soda, and one to two teaspoons of dish soap. The University of Nebraska says a chemist discovered that this mixture changes the thiols, the chemical compound that causes the odor, into acids that don’t carry a skunk smell, thus eliminating the odor.
