"Manuel and his partner did a great job for me! They demolished my old deck and built a beautiful new deck. They are respectful and courteous, theyâ re careful with their work, they left my property clean at the end of every work day, and they kept in close communication with me throughout the job. I couldnâ t be happier and I highly recommend them!"

Small jobs welcome

"Richard is professional, cordial, and experienced. I appreciate his willingness to take on a small project (replacing old countertops with new laminate and tile backsplash) with as much professional attention as bigger projects. He's also good about advising what kinds of materials fit the age of the house, keeping what I'd call the historical integrity in mind. They work efficiently and quickly, checking with me as questions arose. The kitchen and outdoor "workshop" areas were tidied up at the end of the day. I worked with other contractors on a big project (significant repairs after a huge tree fell on my house six years ago) and that was an awful experience including overcharging, non-existent change orders, lack of communication, and, ultimately, poor workmanship. Richard and Trimco have re-established my faith in his profession. Trimco is a great small company! I recommend them with no reservations at all and look forward to having them do other projects for me in the future."

"While I did not hire this company ultimately, I remained very impressed that they came to the site fully prepared (they did a ton of research on my property) and were ready to go day one had we chosen to go with them. In the end, we only decided to go with another contractor due to their existing familiarity with the current neighborhood we were in however, Empirevue are a top notch professional company judging by our initial interaction and I will be reaching out to them again for our other projects"

"DVR construction did an incredible job. Bobby was the primary person that did the work and he did a great job. Daniel, the owner, is a very personable person and strides to make sure his clients are happy and goes out of the way to make sure that his clients are happy with the work. Our kitchen flooded and it was at the beginning of the pandemic when everything was shut down. Daniel worked hard to keep the project moving forward since we had no kitchen. He talked and fought with our insurance adjuster and make them understand what needed to be done compared to what they only wanted to cover. It was very nice to see a contractor fighting more for us than what the insurance company was. As for trust, we had no issues in having to leave anyone from DVR Construction alone within our home if needed. All the employees are very nice and trustworthy, which is important to know and feel as at times you have to leave someone within your home while you are gone. DVR Construction did such and amazing job that we hired them for another job in our basement and will be calling them back to do a bathroom remodel as well. The price they charged was very reasonable compared to other companies and the work, again was great."

"Ken does excellent work every time. We worked together on design elements and materials selection and he often would find sources for supplies that were cheaper than the local Home Depot. Ken has a good eye for possibilities on design or practicality during the remodel and I often took his suggestions on how to make a good plan or element even better. His work is consistently of a very high caliber at a very competitive price."

Unfinished Carpentry questions, answered by experts

There are approximately 5.33 board feet in a 2x4. You can use the board foot calculator in this article to easily find the answer. A 2x4 is 2 inches of thickness by 4 inches of width, so you need to find the length, with 8 feet being the most common. You’d use the calculator here to multiply 2 times 4 times 8, and then divide by 12, arriving at a total of 5.33 board feet.

Homeowners can increase the usefulness of their garage space in other ways, and one option is to extend the length of the garage by making it deeper. The process is similar to traditional garage extensions, but the end product is a garage with a different layout rather than additional parking spaces.

The best way to calculate framing costs is by basing your costs on the square footage of your home. On average, framing your home could cost anywhere between $7 and $16 per square foot.

To ensure you don’t go over budget, base your estimates on the higher end of the price range. If you know you’re going to use high-end materials or require a custom or complex build, you might even want to tack on an additional 5% of your budget.

In framing, studs are placed at 16-inch intervals to coincide with the typical spacing of wall materials such as drywall or plywood. This spacing is called "on-center" and is necessary for maintaining structural stability and efficient use of materials. The 16-inch spacing also helps to distribute the weight evenly across the building's structure. For those looking to cut material costs and improve energy efficiency, 24-inch stud spacing can be employed through a method called "advanced framing". This requires careful planning and adherence to local building codes to ensure structural integrity.

Baseboards don’t have to be nailed into studs. However, nailing them into studs adds to their stability. When studs aren’t available, you can secure them with drywall nails directly into the drywall and adhesive. Always aim to nail into studs, especially in high-traffic or impact-prone areas.
