Customers say: True professional

"Rick did a phenomenal job for us on a full-house, extremely detailed project. It was a lot of work, and he plowed through it with a great attitude. His finish work was excellent, texturing on point, and he even painted the entire interior of the house flawlessly. I highly recommend Rick's work and would hire him again when needed."

"We had Near Me Roofing Company re-shingle my 2 story house. The crew was professional , clean and on time. On our first day, it started to rain and they were happy to re-schedule to another day of the week. We were very satisfied with the finished product and would recommend them."

"Ean helped me plan and installed a walk-in shower in my bathroom to replace a fiberglass molded tub/shower. To make the shower bigger, he knocked out one wall that had shelving removed on the backside, rebuilt the new wall, and installed more plumbing to accommodate the extra space. The second wall was reduced to a half-wall and a door was removed. He dealt with new drywall, reinforcing beams over an open door space while creating the half-wall, installation of new shower and bathroom fixtures, and even did some painting. Shower tile and shower pan was subcontracted out to some very experienced and capable tile persons who were chosen by Ean. Ean is a very personable and easy to talk to. He listens. I asked his opinion about my ideas and he gave me his honest thoughts. He was very agreeable to work with when I would change my mind about something in the plans. He was very aware of leaving a clean workspace each day. Quality of work was excellent. I LOVE my new walk-in shower!!!"

"These folks were phenomenal painting our new home. They were knowledgable about techniques to get rid of cigarette smell and which paints would work best. We would definitely recommend them to others and use them again for future painting projects."

"We are senior homeowners who need help with odd maintenance and moving jobs. Jose contacted me immediately when I asked for a quote - some of the other contacts never got in touch. He came to our home that day to see what we needed and assess the need - and then he patiently waited two weeks to do it, rescheduled because we were ill. When we finally did meet, he did an excellent job in a very short time. We are already talking to him about another job. If you need someone with good skills and a great work ethic to help you with essential jobs you can no longer do, call Jose."

"Ernie was knowledgeable and thorough. He repaired several cut holes in the ceiling of the house we just moved into where the previous owners had cut through to install some venting. I have some construction background but this job I did not want to tackle myself. Ernie patched and re-textured the entire 600 sq for area. He was enjoyable to have in our home and his work was impeccable. You cannot even tell patchwork was done, the ceiling looks perfect. He was tidy and cleaned up well and was all around just fantastic. His son helped with the texturing and was also very personable. Overall a great experience and I would hire Ernie again in a heartbeat. Trustworthy, honest and his work is solid."

Drywall questions, answered by experts

Wet-sanding and dry-sanding each have pros and cons. Dry-sanding is less messy, so it’s a good option if you’re trying to minimize dust (for example, if you’re sanding an occupied home or working with particularly dry or dusty drywall mud). However, dry-sanding is quicker because you don’t have to keep rinsing a sponge or wait for it to dry before painting.

Drywall can be toxic to the environment and to humans in some cases. As drywall breaks down in a landfill and comes in contact with other organic chemicals, it can create hydrogen sulfide gas or leach into the groundwater. Additionally, the CDC recommends methods for controlling the inhalation of drywall dust when handled. While the common ingredients of drywall—gypsum, silica, and mica—are naturally occurring, they can cause irritation in some humans.

Certain drywall textures, like sand and sometimes popcorn, can be smoothed by applying skim coats, sanding the walls, or chipping away the texture. However, it’s worth considering removing the texture and starting with a blank canvas. Smoothing textured walls requires a lot of sandpaper and elbow grease and can take longer than just outright removing the texture.

There is no way to cut drywall without making dust, but you can reduce the amount of dust and especially the dangerous airborne particles by using manual cutting tools. Using a utility knife to score and snap your drywall will minimize dust production, and a jab saw for cutting cutouts for boxes and fixtures will generate almost no airborne dust. Even if you use these methods, you should still wear a respirator and safety goggles to avoid damage to your lungs and eyes.

According to the EPA, mold grows within 24 to 48 hours if left untreated after a water leak. So unless you notice the leak and stop it right away, you only have a day or so before mold is a real concern. If you don’t notice the leak, it can take about three weeks for the mold spores to become visible. That means you’ve likely had an active mold infection for a few weeks by the time you notice discoloration.
