"Sean and Richard did an amazing job getting rid of the woodpeckers getting into our attic. They removed the existing woodpecker nests from the attic and installed "bird blocks" around our house in the likely places. They were very nice to work with and very professional. They came when they said they would and did an amazing job, for a fair price and finished quite quickly. They did everything they said they were going to do. They gave us a guarantee and encouraged us to contact him with any questions. I did text Sean, and he responded quickly with a good answer. I would highly recommend U.S. Animal Control of the Great Northwest!"

Pest Control questions, answered by experts

The time and number of treatments required for an exterminator to get rid of roaches depend on factors like the roach type, infestation severity, and extermination method. For small infestations, a single treatment may be sufficient, showing results within 1 to 3 days. However, most cases require several treatments and take about 2 to 8 weeks to resolve completely. Severe infestations can take up to 6 months to fully eliminate.

Boric acid is among the harsher chemicals you can use in your home, and it poses risks whether ingested, inhaled, or touched. Kids and pets alike tend to put their hands and mouths on anything within reach, so it’s always a good idea to store boric acid in a spot they can’t get to and use it only when they’re not around for an extended period. When you use it, ensure they’re out of the house and fully clean up any trace of boric acid when you’re done because even a small amount can cause problems.

Although it's easy to eliminate one or two harmless spiders yourself, professional spider exterminators have the tools, licenses, and expertise to reduce or remove major infestations effectively. They can also safely get rid of venomous black widow or brown recluse spiders and offer advice about preventative treatments to help defend against more infestations.

Squirrels hate anything that disturbs the peace in their nest. Loud noises, bright lights, and strong smells like cayenne pepper or mothballs will deter them from your attic. Spread these scents, add a strobe light, or use an ultrasonic repeller to keep squirrels from nesting in your attic.

No, pest control is not covered by home insurance. This is considered routine maintenance that is the responsibility of the homeowner. Although this may be discouraging news, don’t let it deter you from taking care of your home so you can prevent pests from entering and becoming a bigger nuisance. Otherwise, you may have a bigger problem on your hands that you’ll also have to cover out-of-pocket.
