"We had a great experience with Lake Washington Windows & Doors. The installers, Crisanto, Johan, and Daniel, were extremely professional, did excellent work, and kept us informed throughout the entire installation process. They were respectful of our home and clearly took pride in the quality of their work. We are very happy with our new windows and patio doors and would highly recommend this team."

"He came, he saw, he conquered on putting in a new exterior ground level door, door frame, and jamb to replace one that was askew and beyond hope. My only quibble is filling in the finiishing nail holes on the (reused) interior trim. But that was not a big deal, and so far everything seems fine. Best of all my spouse is happy."

"The project went better than expected. Matt called me right away to come look at the project. He gave me realistic timing and was right on time for everything. He was very sensitive to my dog, who likes to bolt out the door, and for having the project finished in time for guest. Once we discovered the problem, the fix was uncomplicated. Matt communicated what was going to happen very well. Hopefully we can have him back for more projects."

Doors questions, answered by experts

An interior French door should last you anywhere between 30 and 50 years, while an exterior French door unit will last around 15 to 30 years on average. Exactly how long your French doors last depends on the quality of the materials you choose, with vinyl doors lasting far less time than fiberglass, metal, and clad-wood doors. Upgrading to shatterproof glass can also improve the lifespan of exterior French doors.

Yes, you can add a screen door to most door frames. The screen should be able to fit standard-size door frames, so unless you have an unusually sized door, you shouldn’t have an issue. Just make sure to properly measure the frame. When in doubt, it’s best to let a pro take care of this task for you so it’s installed correctly.

Solid wood is a durable and attractive option for cabinet doors that holds up well against a small amount of moisture. However, solid wood doors will expand and contract, meaning upkeep will be necessary if painted. Particleboard with veneer cabinet doors are cost-effective and can be attractive. MDF cabinet doors offer excellent and predictable workability features. However, both of those options are vulnerable to damage if water finds its way through the veneer or paint finish.

Most modern, standard doors are 1 ⅜-inches thick, so you should aim for this thickness unless you're building a door to replace an antique door or fit into a non-standard wall opening. Thickness varies when installing a pocket door or sliding barn door, so a good rule of thumb is to measure your existing door, if possible. For standard doors, you can also measure from the inside of the door to the door stop to gauge the proper thickness.

WD-40 can be used on squeaky door hinges, but it is generally considered a temporary, short-term solution rather than a long-term fix. While it can silence a squeak in a pinch by breaking down rust and grime, it is not a true lubricant, as it contains only a small amount of lubricating oil that evaporates quickly. Using WD-40 alone may lead to the squeak returning and can attract dirt and dust, potentially causing more wear on the hinge over time. For a more effective and lasting solution, it is recommended to first use WD-40 to clean the hinge, then wipe it clean. Afterward, apply a dedicated lubricant such as silicone spray, white lithium grease, a metal or plastic lubricant, or an oil-based product like petroleum jelly.
