"They came to look at some work on a Saturday and just did it rite then. I wasn't expecting that so was thrilled. Did a great job on a totally miserable project, got it done quickly, cleaned up and cost was very fair. I'd recommend them in a heartbeat"

Dillon established In-Depth Excavation in 2018 following years of experience. What started as a side job for family and friends turned into an ambitious passion and career. Dillon served on the 24-hour on-call duty rotation team for five years. At his First-panel interview he was offered an entry-level position with Alderwood Water and Wastewater District (AWWD). Dillon advanced through the ranks, exceeded qualifications, and was the youngest to be promoted to Utility Worker Lead in company history.\nIn December 2017, Dillon was presented with the Arden Blackledge “Excellence in Leadership” award which is the highest annual honor given at AWWD.\n\nHe was employed by various contractors working on storm, water, sewer mains, demo, plus grading and restoring for two years. Dillon proudly serves Western Washington and is on course for growth to establish In-Depth Excavation as a competitor in diverse markets.

Customers say: True professional

"It went very well. Excavated the top soil and installed and compacted 6inches of pit run and capped with a few inches of 1-1/4" gravel. They cleaned up all the shoulders and made the driveway look like it had always been there. Very professional job."

"Randy and team did an excellent job on our walkway. They were prompt, stayed in close communication, and were ready to go when the weather allowed. Our walkway looks fantastic and is safe which was our primary concern. We couldn't be happier and would highly recommend!"

Customers say: Quick response

"Steve came out to my property a few times to talk over the project of clearing, grading, and filling a new driveway. He worked with me on what made the most sense for the final project details. Steve and his crew made very quick work installing the new driveway with a very clean and professional finish. I am ecstatic over how this project went. I definitely recommend them for anyone looking to get things done and I will absolutely be giving Steve a call in the future for any similar projects."

"I am glad that we hired Earthscape as our backyard looks wonderful now! They built out fence and we are happy with the results. The only thing that kept me from giving a 5 star rating was that they did not weatherproof the fence prior to building it. I am not sure if this is a service Earthscape typically offers but it was never mentioned so any kind of communication on weatherproofing would have been appreciated. All in all though, I recommend Earthscape."

Excavating questions, answered by experts

Prior to excavation, you should prepare the dig site and call 311 before you sign anything.

To get your site ready for excavation, you should move anything in the area that isn’t affixed to the land. You can save money on the excavation by removing hardscaping, including walkways, decks, concrete patios, and paver patios.

Before you carry out any digging, you should call 311 to confirm that there are no utility lines running through your excavation site. Skipping this step could lead to severe injury and property damage if your excavator hits a water, sewage, or gas line.

Excavation and grading are both generally necessary for designing your foundation, and leveling the ground where your foundation will go. These steps can also prepare the area by removing vegetation and anything else that could interfere with your home’s foundation.

Dumpsters work best on hard, study, and level surfaces made of asphalt, stone, or concrete. If the surface is uneven or too soft, the dumpster could get stuck or tip over when filled. Keep in mind that you must obtain a dumpster permit to keep it on a city street in many areas.

You do not have to dig footers for a deck as long as it meets local code and holds up to weather in your area. If you live somewhere that experiences high winds and earthquakes, you may need to dig for your deck posts. Deck blocks, post anchors with base plates, and helical pile systems are the three no-dig deck post options you can choose from if local code permits.

Water lines are buried at various depths, depending on the type of line. For example, most sprinkler lines are buried between four and 12 inches underground. On the other hand, water mains usually sit between one and 3 feet below ground. However, they can go even deeper in cold climates to prevent freezing.
