"Super job! The roof looks great and the deck hasn't looked this good since it was installed. The cleaner went out of his way to thoroughly clean up all around the house including washing the sides of the house. Very professional from bid to job complete."

"Richard was the second contractor to contact me, within 12 hours of my request. He was at my commercial site two hours later and ready to do my emergency gutter cleaning. The overflowing gutters had flooded the inside of my metal building. Richard made clear what he would do and the firm price. He suggested some solutions to the leaky gutters and he offered a fair price for the work. I was glad to have a solution. The job took longer than a half day, so he came back the following morning just as promised. Richard is a great communicator, does meticulous work, and exceeded my expectations. I did not expect this from a gutter cleaning service. My only hesitation in recommending RWT is that he will get too busy and be more difficult to schedule for the next time. This guy is a gem!!!"

Deck Cleaning questions, answered by experts

The “best” material is in the eye of the beholder, as each common decking material boasts its pros and cons. Poured concrete is the best budget-friendly option, but composite wood brings high-grade aesthetics without breaking the bank. Wood is the most traditional material, but it requires more maintenance than some other materials. In other words, do your research before settling on a deck material to find the one that’s best for your pool.

Pressure-treated wood contains preservatives that give the material internal protection from rot and pests. Untreated lumber won’t last more than a few years unless you choose a more expensive wood, like cedar, that naturally stands up well to moisture. Composite decking can outlast wood but is more expensive and doesn’t look as natural. Keep in mind that you’ll need to seal any exterior wood product to protect it from the elements and other forms of external damage.

Pressure-treated decking may be worth it if you want a natural, insect- and rot-resistant decking material that will last for decades with proper maintenance. As such, it’s a much better option than untreated pine. Alternative wood decking materials like cedar and redwood tend to be less durable and more expensive. Some homeowners prefer composite decking, which is a low-maintenance alternative to wood but is also more costly.

Floating decks are a cost-effective and versatile option, but they come with some compromises. Since they sit on smaller footings instead of being deeply anchored, they’re more likely to shift over time, especially in areas with heavy rainfall or freeze-thaw conditions. Their low-to-the-ground design makes them more susceptible to moisture buildup and potential water damage.

Before installing a deck, you must build a base for the deck to rest upon, often made of compacted soil or gravel. While gravel is an optional material, it helps with drainage. Some contractors also recommend installing a weed control membrane, which helps provide a solid foundation for the frame. In the case of an elevated deck, a pro will often lay down a concrete slab as a foundation.
