"This project was a pleasure. Joe was great to work with at all stages of the project. He did a great job communicating about his schedule and always showed up when he said he would. The project met all of our expectations. We would definitely hire again if a new project comes up."

"We have used Northern Oaks property management for several projects on our home. Dakota was knowledgeable took his time and even recommended somebody else for one project we had that he wasn’t comfortable doing. "We had searched for a roofing contractor for several weeks to replace deteriorating ridge cap shingles, but it was tough to get a response from most. Rick responded within a day, and came out to look at the project. He described what he would do and the materials he would use. A contract followed a few days later with an estimated start date. Price looked very reasonable. We had a little confusion leading up to the job due to difficult weather, but Rick was in constant contact throughout. In the end the crew showed up one day before the estimated start date. They started at 9:00am and finished the job by 3:00 the same day. Work was done professionally and they cleaned up after themselves completely. Rick was very considerate of our Covid concerns, and careful to wear a mask when speaking to us. Overall they did a great job, for a good price, and were easy to work with. Highly recommended."

Unfinished Carpentry questions, answered by experts

Bump-out additions can extend anywhere from 2 to 15 feet from an existing room. The right size will depend on how you plan to use the new space. For a cantilever bump-out, which doesn't require additional foundation support, the limit is typically 24 inches (2 feet). If a footing and foundation are part of the project, a bump-out can be much larger, even encompassing a whole room. It's also important to remember that many residential properties have limits on the total house size relative to the lot size.

Yes, using certified lumber and engineered wood products for reduced environmental impact.

Removing a load-bearing wall is best handled by professionals. However, if you have the skill set and decide to DIY the project, you will still need at least one additional person to assist you. Aside from helping with demolition, you'll need another hand to install the new support beam.

An A-frame home can be cheaper to build than a traditional house, but that is not always a given. Prices can be fairly similar in some cases, depending on the location, design, and necessary site preparation. Costs for an A-frame typically run between $100 to $200 per square foot, which is comparable to the cost of a traditional home. The cost of an A-frame can come in under those numbers if you opt for a prefabricated kit.

Removing a load-bearing wall affects the structural integrity of your home, so you’ll need a permit before starting the work. Building codes vary by municipality, and obtaining a permit and having the work inspected after completion will ensure you’re in compliance with all applicable regulations.
