In 2012 D.J’s Keys expanded to the Burlington area taking on his son-in-law Dave Pope as an apprentice. Currently emergency services are not available in the Burlington area but jobs can be done by appointment. The best type of deadbolt depends on your specific needs. If accessibility is your primary concern, a single-cylinder deadbolt is the easiest to operate. Mortise locks are likely the most secure type of deadbolt you can install, but single-cylinders combined with secondary locking mechanisms like vertical locks are also a great option. Smart locks will give you the most flexibility to open and close your locks whenever and wherever you need to. 

Replacing your locks isn’t always a necessary option. You can usually save money by rekeying locks instead of replacing the hardware. You should consider rekeying the locks instead of replacing them in the following scenarios:

  • You want to upgrade your existing locks.

  • You have a lock you don’t want to replace.

  • You recently bought a home and want to change the locks.

  • You lost your key.

Expect to pay between $50 to $200 if you hire a locksmith to change your locks. That figure includes labor and the cost of basic hardware. The cost will naturally be higher if you plan to install more expensive locks, like smart locks, and if you need a lot of them.

It’s possible, but depends on the design of your lock. Some door locks that lack a keyhole do boast a small hole on the exterior handle or knob. This hole’s primary function is to allow water to drain out of the lock, in addition to giving homeowners an easy spot to insert lubrication. However, you can typically use a paperclip in this pinhole to unlock the door by manipulating the mechanism inside.
