"We hired Cody to do some wallboard repair and to replace 4 interior Luan doors with 4 standard Masonite slabs in existing pre-hung door frames. The wall repair came out great, but the doors turned out to be well beyond his skill level. A carpenter friend had measured and delivered the doors to us, but he became too busy to do the work so we hired Cody. Surprisingly Cody claimed the standard doors were 1/8â too wide and too tall, and that both the width and height had to be trimmed. We questioned him but trusted his â expertiseâ and relented. He wound up cutting off so much of the width and height that we are left with visible gaps between the doors and the jambs. And because the barrel of the doorknobs did not reach the strike plates, he "fixed" his mistake by â doubled upâ two strike plates on each door so three catch - the fourth still doesn't. In short, he ruined $400 worth of doors, which have to be replaced â and installed â by a competent contractor. Cody refuses to discuss a solution, claiming that he warned us that trimming the doors would be problematic, and blaming us for telling him to cut the doors â all of which we vigorously deny. He was the one who suggested the â fix,â and we trusted he knew what he was doing. It wasnâ t until he was finished that we saw the horrific mistakes and that his workmanship was abysmal. Weâ ve never written a bad review but cannot recommend Bartonâ s Perfection if you need carpentry work. His work was far from â perfection.â"

As of 11/13 I am back in VT having completed repairs to friends, family and others in FL and will be taking on projects here in VT again. I am scheduled back in FL for a couple of weeks in February to do some site work for a new build but plan on being in VT until Dec 25. I provide, Carpentry, decks, painting, vinyl siding, window & door replacement, flooring, concrete work & repairs. From new to repair services to renovations. I am a trained Mill & House Carpenter, Graduated from BVT in 1984, after a 2 years active service I returned home to the reserves and began my Construction Career. I have overseen projects up to $100million in value, in 2016 I/we started a new venture of buying and re-habilitating campgrounds in GA & FL. I am now semi-retired and decided to provide quality affordable small construction services. In the very near future I will be providing certified home inspections as soon as testing is completed. If you have a project that needs to be done, give me a call and we can get it done. Please when contacting let me know the scope of work, "type of work as well as 1, room, 2 rooms, etc, typr of room kitchen, bath, closet, etc." this will aid in my preparation to ask pertinent questions as well as limit the back and forth emails and speed up time for us both. Latex paint is a good option to use on wood panels because it's user-friendly and easy to find in home improvement stores. It comes in a variety of finishes ranging from high-gloss to flat. Depending on the amount of paneling, a professional painter’s favorite is often a satin or eggshell finish. They add a bit of sheen and shine, but not too much. Latex paint is also water-based, so cleanup is quick, and you can easily scrub your brushes clean.

While paint drying smoothly on a wall is ideal, a can full of dry paint is not. To open a can of dry paint, you’ll need a tool with a sharp edge, such as a utility knife or a box cutter. Take your tool and score the area where the lid meets the can to break through the dried-up paint. Then, use a paint can opener or a flathead screwdriver to pry the lid open and check the state of the contents. For smaller cans with plastic lids, you can run the top under hot water to loosen the lid. 

When it comes to how to paint a brick chimney, consider that standard paint can seal in moisture and cause serious chimney problems. Instead, use a vapor-permeable sealant. You’ll first scrub and sand the chimney; then, you can patch any gaps with caulk and apply the sealant. We recommend hiring a pro for this job since it entails working on the roof, which comes with a lot of necessary safety precautions.

Because satin paint has a sheen to it, it will highlight curves and contours. While that’s great for trim, it’s not so excellent for your repaired drywall that has a few small blemishes. In addition, satin paint will stick to your surface better if it’s primed. Sand and prime your surface before applying satin paint for best results.

You can paint over plaster, but repair any damage to the plaster first, or the paint will crack and bubble. You should also prepare the surface of the plaster to accept paint, which gives your paint job the best chance of looking good and lasting a long time. Before applying the color you want, apply a coat or two of primer. Additionally, use latex paint, and choose a latex paint with a satin finish for areas with dampness, like bathrooms.
