"I strongly caution anyone considering doing business with this company. I gave them a deposit of $4,428.65, and when I canceled a week later they kept almost $900 of it even though my service was not for another 6 weeks. You do sign a very simple, clearly stated document that says: should you cancel beyond three business days, you understand your deposit is non-refundable. Northern Basements may choose to refund depending on cancellation circumstances I fully acknowledge that I canceled a few days outside that window, but I hoped an honest company that cares about customers and referrals would choose to provide a full refund. I am a sucker for hoping that. They chose to risk my impression, referral, and review for $885.53. If nothing else comes out of this, I hope everyone reading at least goes in knowing that this statement on their contract is a real threat and your deposit is a hostage. Even Air b and bs offer full refunds on deposits within just a few days of their arrival date. 3 days to cancel with service not scheduled for 6 weeks out, Come on man. No materials were used. No service workers time was taken. The manager justified the 20% withholding as credit card fees, restocking fees, time and resources for the estimate, and administrative fees. I wholly accepted responsibility for the credit card fees and time of Paul, the gentleman who performed the assessment, and I offered to settle at 10%. I still believe any reputable company would have provided a full refund at this point in a project, or at most deduct the credit card fees because nothing more went into this beyond what would have normally been a free estimate. The further arguments the manager made for the additional fees were the scheduling of their team and the allocation of materials for my project. Complete nonsense, especially when the project was not set for 6 weeks away. Because they had my deposit hostage, they had control over how much they decided they wanted to keep, it was completely arbitrary, and they kept almost $900 of my money without providing anything. If they wanted to cover their credit card transaction fees, fine, at most 6%, but the rest is absolute robbery. The only solace I can find in this loss of almost $900 now is that I did not spend another $13,000 with them. I tried to call Paul after speaking with the manager to ask if he could do me a favor and try to reason with the manager on my behalf because he seemed nice enough. No answer. No callback. I will never seek out their services again and I will actively discourage others from doing so but, based on my experience, I expect they do not care."

Robert Rathbone Handyman Services 215N Cabot VT 802-522-6255 Central Vermont's Premier Handyman Services Provider. I have over 35 years of experience in ALL aspects of home care and repair. I believe that whatever project I am working on should be done properly, and to codes. I am not a hack, not a quack...I don't cut corners, and I don't mess around. I have 5 consecutive years of receiving Angi's Super Service Award for Quality and Excellence. Only about 1% on Angi can say that. Those are not participation awards. I believe in honesty and transparency. You found me on a bulletin board. I have not been vetted by Angi, and Angi will never refer anyone directly to me, because I am not a paying customer. This bulletin board is a free service that they offer to non-paying service providers. My reviews should assure you that I will give you highest quality results every time. I will pass ANY background check...the only negative mark on my name is being caught with one joint at Tunbridge Fair in 1986 (85?)...nothing else. I would like to discuss the one bogus bad review of my business....it took me over 5 years to find a person like this, and I found a real winner. This guy is something else...He was attempting to do framing work, using small, 2" 'L' brackets to tie it together. He tried more than once to add significantly more work on to an arrangement...without adding any additional compensation to the arrangement, then he got upset that I had the audacity to expect to get more pay for more work. The screen shots he is posting were for a completely different phase of the job....some time prior to our falling out. This self-inflating narcissist wants you to think I took 3 grand from him and split. Nope. I got a 300$ starting payment; half for starting that phase of the job, another 300$ was to be paid upon completion of that phase. THE 300$ WAS FULLY REFUNDED within 15 minutes of my leaving...unfortunately it only took him 8 minutes to trash me with a B.S. review. I didn't even charge for the work done. The work was in a space with no power and no heat. When the temperature went to single digits and below zero, I told him my battery-powered tools wouldn't work in that , and I wasn't much interested in working in it, either. (I was told to use hand warmers.) Since it was not an emergency, not an occupied structure, or even a dwelling waiting to be occupied, I said I would be happy to return when things warmed up a wee bit. This guy went off on me like he owned me. Verbally, not in text. That is when my communications stopped, and I walked...I should have done so sooner, for a multitude of reasons that I need not go into here. Enough of that. "Illegitimi Non Carborundum" I have an almost 100% call back rate. The folks who moved away from the area can't call me back, but all of my other clients certainly do. I restore vintage stereo equipment as a sometimes paying hobby...to keep that equipment in circulation, and to feel the gratification of seeing someone who will enjoy it when they purchase a piece from me. If you would like a nice piece, or entire system of restored vintage audio, I'm right here! I am 100% quality oriented, and I do not cut corners on any project. I will work late if time is a factor to complete a project, and I will respond for an emergency at any hour. I encourage my clients to ask questions...and I'll never talk down to you if you ask me about something I'm doing to your home...why and how. I always will have your best interests at heart, and I would never give you bad advice. I do not mark up prices on materials. My job is install em, not sell em. Nobody can say I sold them something they didn't need just so I could make a buck. I do charge, at my lower rate, to go fetch materials. I have a 1 hour charge for estimates...but it's deductible from the final bill. It covers my truck's addiction to gasoline. I shop locally as much as possible, and network with several other professionals in the area who share the same ethical and quality standards that I do. I feel I'm responsible for the project even if I'm not doing that particular segment of it. If you're not born handsome, ya gotta be handy! My labor rates are: 45$/hr for general work 65$/hr for technical work, like plumbing, electrical, and propane, etc. I do have a 2 hour minimum, in lieu of a service charge...so if I'm coming over, make a list!! Thank you for your time, and for visiting my page.
"Robert was communicative, friendly, knowledgeable, and efficient! He was so good at the initial ask that we had him look at two other plumbing issues, which he fixed. He immediately identified the parts needed and purchased them on the same day so our projects would be finished promptly. I highly recommend Robert for any of your handyperson needs!"

The average cost to snake your main sewer line is around $250 for a simple snake. Most sewer line specialists charge between $45 and $200 per hour for main sewer line snaking, so the time involved plays a major role. The price you’ll pay will depend on the severity of the clog, the item causing the backup, how long it takes to remove the item, and more. A more severe issue that requires unclogging a main sewer line will cost $3,100 on average.
The average cost to unclog a drain is around $200, with prices ranging between $110 and $800, depending on the type of drain and the extent of the clog. Hiring a professional to snake the toilet or sink will usually cost between $110 and $275, a bathtub or shower typically costs around $225, and a main line clog can cost between $100 and $800 based on the severity of the clog and how far beyond the access point the clog sits. Since the labor involved varies, most plumbers will charge an hourly rate for drain cleaning.
Yes, most states require plumbers to be licensed, and for good reason. Hiring an unlicensed plumber could lead to poor quality work, costly future expenses, and potential code violations.
As you browse our pro listings, take note of the “Angi Approved” badge. Angi Approved businesses meet our standards for certification which include:
The owner, principal, or relevant manager passed a criminal background check
Required to have applicable state and local licenses
Maintain an average star rating of 3.0 or better on our network, if they have at least one review
Paying to advertise their services
Meeting any other eligibility criteria required by Angi
Keep in mind licensing is different from certifications. A license is a legal requirement to operate a business, while certifications are voluntary.
You should not attempt to snake your sewer yourself. Accessing and snaking your sewer requires heavy-duty equipment, and while renting is possible, misusing it can damage your sewer main and leave you with very expensive repair costs, not to mention potential environmental issues and severe water damage. Accessing your sewer also exposes you to hazardous sewer gasses, and failing to seal the sewer properly after work can be very dangerous. It’s always best to hire a professional sewer cleaner near you to handle this type of work.
The average cost to hire a plumber is around $100 an hour but can vary between $45 and $200 an hour depending on the plumber’s experience and the repair that you need. It’s also important to note that these prices can go up on holidays, and emergency plumber rates average $150 per hour, in addition to a flat-rate trip fee of $100 to $350.
