"Robbie did a thorough job of excavating the patio area, laying down gravel and a barrier. I was away the week he started; my neighbor reported he was out there for many hours completing that part of the work. He offered his opinion on enlarging the raised beds surrounded by the patio, advice that resulted in a more esthetically pleasing result, for a very reasonable fee. The finished product is very attractive and has really improved the look of the back yard."

We use only in house certified installers and do not sub contract our roof labor. We complete over 100 projects yearly with high quality results and impeccable cleanup. We also offer in house closed cell and open cell spray foam services. We can tear off the roof and insulate those hard to reach areas without entering the home. Aardvark is a small business, locally owned and operated servicing all of Nothern Vermont. We specialize in hazerdous tree removal, and commercial and residential excavation. We keep it small with only 2 full time empoloyees and 2 part time. We will occaisionally use subcontractors for heavy trucking and crane work. We are a LLC in the state of vermont and are currently in "good standing" with the state. Angie's list customers will recieve a 5% discount on all bids. We look foreward to hearing from you!

Gravel driveways last the longest. With proper installation and routine maintenance, they can last upwards of 100 years. To make sure they last as long as possible, gravel driveways should be properly graded and leveled during installation and repair. The natural material is extremely durable, but the grooves make it challenging to remove snow and easy for weeds to grow through the cracks. Still, this is nothing an afternoon DIY project can’t fix and lends to the fact that their easy maintenance helps gravel driveways last even longer.

An ideal driveway gradient is between 2% and 5%. Anything lower than 1% or higher than 15% can cause problems for your car or property. A driveway with less than a 1% slope increases your likelihood of flooding and water damage, while a driveway with a 15% grade or higher can be too steep for safe traveling.

Whether you should resurface or replace your asphalt driveway heavily depends on its condition. If the foundation is solid and the damage is minor, resurfacing is your best bet because it’s more affordable and faster than replacing the driveway. But if your driveway has foundational problems and/or severe damage, like large, deep cracks and potholes, then it makes more sense to replace it. 

Building a road on a slope requires careful planning and will normally require a drainage system underneath to prevent flooding and damage to the road over time. Your professional may lengthen your road to create switchbacks if the slope directly to your home is too steep, as there are regulations for maximum road slope. The drainage system will help prevent runoff from the higher side of the slope from damaging the asphalt or concrete. Keep in mind that building a road on a slope isn’t a good DIY project, as a lot can go wrong.

While paving a driveway is possible to do as a DIY project, we don’t recommend it. Hiring a driveway professional to pave it will ensure that your driveway looks neat and clean and lasts for years to come, and it will also prevent a weak driveway and, potentially, damage to your foundation. Paving a driveway requires heavy machinery, and while you can rent the equipment needed, operating it close to your garage slab or around your home’s foundation can crack it and lead to structural issues.
