"Insulating a crawl space is incredibly expensive (especially for a space that hardly anybody ever sees or goes into), but they did a good job and it has helped in keeping the pipes warmer in winter and reducing damp feeling inside the house."
"Roberto was the technician and he was very professional, polite, and personable. He inspected the rest of our system and told us things that needed to be changed or repaired. He showed me pictures of everything. Everything he told me about was accurate. He quoted me a price for R38 insulation , Some of our ducts were plastic and he recommended them to be changed. I agreed completely and didn't know they were plastic. I would have had them done the work but I had no price comparisons to make and besides I didn't have the money right then. So he just finished the vent cleaning and left his card. He did a great job on the vent cleaning and was happy with the work."

"We are very satisfied with the completed project. The workers were skilled and easy to communicate with, and patient with changes and delays caused by us as the project developed. It was necessary to raise the floor level of the porch a couple of inches to match the indoor floor level, and to adjust for the slight slope in the porch floor. That was done expertly and the finished hardwood floor is perfect in both areas. The sunroom is great and much more functional than a screened porch in Washington’s climate. The insulated glass does an excellent job of keeping both hot and cold out. The original ceiling was kept (our preference), and they added insulation above it. On the down side, better and more complete drawings of the kitchen plan would have been helpful to avoid some minor misunderstandings, delay, and changes. Remodel USA does not have a showroom, and it took some time to receive cabinet samples. We were left on our own to find a place to see the cabinet hardware from the catalog that we were asked to choose from. The tile distributor they work with (Sita Tile) has a good showroom and selection. Some of the drywall finishing was less than satisfactory and painting is specifically excluded in the standard contract, but these were both easy enough to take care of afterward. Flexible ducting rather than the recommended rigid pipe was used to connect the exhaust fan to the original exhaust location, even after mentioning this when seeing the flexible duct package on the floor. I can't give a rating for punctuality, because we had the luxury of not needing the work to be completed quickly. The project was a bit delayed in starting, but then once started it went well, not counting some delays that were caused by us while we made final material choices."
"Sky Home does excellent work! Most recently, we hired Sky Home to replace our front door, frame, and storm door, roof soffits, and replace and wrap the fascia board on the exterior of our townhome in Centreville, VA. Ben went the extra mile wherever he could to ensure that the work was top notch, effective for purpose and pleasing to the eye, including even helping our neighbor out a bit, which showed tremendous character. The house looks incredible. We started working with Ben and Sky Home last year. As new homeowners, the ownership part quickly became a harsh reality after we'd sprung a serious roof leak, which resulted in a terrible encounter with a bad roofer who did more damage than any good to our roof. Long story short, the bad contractor wouldn't fix it. We knew we were in need of a new roof anyways and in our search, we discovered Sky Home. We were so grateful to have found them. Ben and Sky Home were AWESOME from his estimate to the end product. They worked as early or as late as required to get the job done right, on time and to our specifications. He knocked it out of the park and if he says he's going to do something, he does it. Ben and team are worth every single dollar and they go above and beyond. For example, we also had him re-insulate our attic and for a little bit more cash, he managed to build for us some adequate storage space around the newly blown insulation using spare wood from the roof replacement, which was a huge help to us. Dude is killer. We couldn't recommend him any higher!!"
The primary downside of radiant barriers is their limited effectiveness in cold climates. They are designed to reflect radiant heat, making them less beneficial in cooler conditions where heat retention is more important.
Radiant barriers require proper installation to maximize effectiveness. Incorrect placement can lead to minimal benefits. They also do not provide insulation, meaning they should be used in conjunction with traditional insulation for optimal energy efficiency.
Periodic checks for moisture or pest issues ensure consistent performance.
Winterizing your outdoor plumbing keeps your outdoor spigot from freezing and potentially bursting. This includes draining residual water out of the pipe and spigot after turning the valve off, then removing garden hoses and other attachments from the spigot before winter comes. Insulating the pipe that leads to the spigot and installing a freeze-proof faucet also help, as does installing an outdoor faucet protector.
All garage doors, particularly newly installed models, add value to your home. Higher-quality and higher-priced doors increase the ROI, so a well-insulated custom garage door increases the value of your home more than a poorly-insulated stock model. Updating a garage door boasts the second-highest home improvement ROI, at nearly 95%.
Yes, eco-friendly blown-in insulation options include materials made from recycled cellulose or wool. These offer excellent thermal performance and sustainability, reducing energy consumption and environmental impact while enhancing home efficiency.
