"Mir and his assistant did a great job mounting my 4 TVs. They were friendly, courteous and professional. His price was very reasonable and I wound definitely use his services again."
"I must comment the contact person R....h. very responsive to all our needs she set the tone for the work to be done in our house was prompt. Sensitive to our needs. Technicians were very respectful and professional. We are very happy. A job well done! We highly recommend them."
"Mir was very professional and did a great job, my basement bathroom sink had been broken for a while. I hired Mir to fix it, he purchased whatever was required to get the job done. Great work!"
"I had a dozen or so roof shingles blow off in a windstorm. A roofer I had used previously said they were booked-up for a while because of the windstorm. So I thought I would get a handyman to do a temporary patch with a tarp until the roofer's schedule cleared. Rebekah came out to give an estimate for the temporary patch. Her company came up under the search for a handyman but it turns out she is a general contractor and said she had a roofer available.
Long story short, the roofer came out the next day and did a proper shingle replacement - sent pictures and everything. It gave me one less thing to worry about and everything went smoothly. Highly recommend.
"Luis and his crew did an amazing job installing flooring in my attic and building shelves. I was really, really happy with their work. I will definitely be asking him to do additional jobs in my house."
"Fantastic! William and his team at Handyman in DMV are fairly priced and do great work. We had them do drywall patching, new door installation, painting, as well as mount a TV, hang pictures, caulk the bathroom, install a ceiling fan, and minor electrical work in order to update the old outlets throughout the house. His company performs the work at a reasonable hourly labor rate and they didn't up-charge us for the materials. We were able to get all of that work done in about a work and only paid around $7,500 including materials! We will definitely be using them again."
"I have used John several times and at all times he has been beyond amazing. John is patient, understanding, and takes his time to explain details of everything being done. He always asks questions to make sure the work he does is what the client wants. John is overall an extremely skilled man and has done different types of works with me from painting, cabinet installation, and even putting together/setting up furniture. John is beyond amazing and is a Subject Matter Expert (SME) when it comes to Home Improvement."
Install Central Vacuum questions, answered by experts
No. Only the hose or the attachments are portable in a central vacuum system. A portable vacuum is a standalone model like a stick, canister, or upright. A central vacuum system is defined by a central power unit, which is installed in one place like an AC unit, and the connected network of piping to funnel the suction.
The disadvantages associated with central vacuums start with cost. They are expensive to install, especially in existing homes, as retrofitting requires opening walls. The system's bulky hoses can also be inconvenient to maneuver and store compared to portable vacuums. Additionally, repairs may need professional service, adding to maintenance costs. Lastly, while powerful, they may be overkill for smaller homes or apartments, making the investment less practical for some households.
Experienced professionals don’t usually need to take down drywall to install the central vacuum. They are experienced in working in the tight spaces between walls and in crawl spaces to minimize any damage. The only drywall changes should be the holes cut for the new outlets. However, home design, existing plumbing, and other factors may require some modification. An estimate from a professional contractor should include information if any changes need to be made.
Yes, installing a central vacuum system typically adds value to your home. The ease of use, longevity, and superior suction power of a central vacuum system can add up to $2,000 to your home’s value if you decide to sell. Potential buyers may consider the central vacuum a perk to purchasing your home.
They’ll use more electricity than the average upright vacuum, but not remarkably more. Most power units plug into a standard 120-volt outlet and don’t have significant power demands. You shouldn’t notice an increase in electricity bills. If you have any specific questions about energy costs, ask your installer as you examine purchase decisions. Larger power units will need more electricity for their suction levels.
