"Last Friday, I called Shayne after finding his name in Angie's list. He was very prompt in replying and scheduling an appointment. We had been surviving for months with only one phone line, because Verizon had not been able to find the problem inside our home. Shayne quickly and systematically moved through the 4 floors of our large home, and found where the problem was. After a bit more than two hours he found the short circuit, repaired it , and went through the house reconnecting each extension. And he charged a reasonable price for the very good work. He was very pleasant and professional, clearly knew what he was doing (which was not the case with Verizon) and was clear in communicating what the issue was. "My second appointment with Geek Choice in March went well. The phone call from the office to determine what I wanted to accomplish at the visit is a great idea. I would say that here is where Geek Choice can look for complications. For example, someone who's used a computer at work and at home may still be unaware of some basic ideas. For example, if a device is to be added, does it need to be charged, does the person have the correct cable or battery, etc. Young people know this; older people do not necessarily.
The representative was courteous, knowledgeable, patient, and offered additional tips. He arrived within the time frame specified.

"They evaluated the issue, told us the parts that needed to be replaced, and ordered them.  He suggested I purchase an Angie's list coupon to save money, and I saved about $50.  They came back 3 - 4 days later and replaced the parts.  It's been working fine since.

"AHS is ok. They cover repairs of most everything under the roof of your house. The companies that contract with them are not always the best. You call AHS with the issue, they send a fax to the repair company and give you the contact info. If they don't contact you within 24 hours, you call them. Sometimes they answer, sometimes they don't. When they arrive (usually three days or so later), they service the item. if it has issues within the 90 days, you call AHS again, they are sent out with no charge. If the serviceman decides the unit is unrepairable, AHS will allow you to choose a replacement from their listing (usually not as good as what you have) they will install and remove your old item, or give you wholesale amount to buy and install your own. Prices vary on what you want covered and what you want the copay to be, plus where you live. For me it is 49.99 per month with a 75.00 time of service order. You can have more than one item serviced at the same time under the same fee. If you have a SEAR product the repair guys are great. Not that wild about the other ones they send out. But it is a big savings compared to calling someone on your own. The cost of service is only the 75.00 copay."
