"Klys and his crew were on time and called to confirm the appointment. They began on one window and systematically moved around the house. The price was good for a quality window and install. I was happy from start to finish."

"The first windows we replaced in our home (back in 1994 or 1995) were 4 Castle windows. They were pricey, and we took a leap of faith on that purchase... and we have NEVER had a problem with them. Throughout the years, we have replaced all of the remaining windows ourselves, with Home Depot windows; EVERY one of those suckers has needed repair. Ugh. So now, as the Home Depot windows begin to fail, I have returned to Castle to replace (for the second time) two dormer windows. The initial consult representative, the follow-up measurement professional and the installation crew all showed up on time; they were courteous and professional; they did a great job. It cost us a lot of money...But I don't even care anymore. My goal is to NOT have to re-do jobs year after year after year. I know that those dormer windows (and the four others on the first floor, from the '90s) will never be on my "to do" list again."

Window Door Contractors questions, answered by experts

There are many ways to customize screens, including customizing frame colors and mesh styles to complement your home’s aesthetic.

Rescreening a door costs an average of $7 to $150. It’s a relatively easy process that only requires 30 minutes to an hour’s work.

Window screen repair costs an average of $310, with a typical range of $100 to $480. The final price depends on several factors, including the window size, accessibility, screen type, whether the frame needs replacement, and especially the screen material.

The cost of window screen materials varies widely based on durability and features:

  • Fiberglass: $35–$200

  • Aluminum: $50–$300

  • Copper: $90–$850

  • Stainless Steel: $45–$400

  • Brass: $100–$900

  • Solar: $55–$850

  • Security: $100–$1,000

  • Vinyl: $25–$120

Costs also differ by screen type. For instance, a prefabricated screen might cost only $40, moveable screens typically run $25 to $75, and retractable screens range from $300 to $900. To save money, you can choose more affordable materials like vinyl or fiberglass, opt to rescreen instead of replacing the entire frame, and have multiple screens repaired at once to reduce labor costs.

A garage door screen can be a worthwhile investment, especially if you frequently use your garage for activities like a home gym, workshop, or other hobbies. It allows you to enjoy fresh air and natural light without worrying about bugs. Additionally, a screen provides ventilation that can improve air quality when you're working with paints, varnishes, or producing sawdust.

The best option depends on your usage. For occasional use, a DIY fabric screen is a low-cost, simple solution that you can put up and take down as needed. If you plan to spend a lot of time in the space, investing in a customized, professionally installed garage door screen can help transform the area into a new hub for your household.

Most windows last for 15 to 30 years, depending on the frame material and the glass quality, but most will require repairs during that time. Windows gradually lose efficiency, so it’s usually best to have a window repair technician inspect and service your windows every five to 10 years. You should also repair your windows if you experience the following:

  • Leaks

  • Drafts

  • Difficulty opening or closing

  • Sudden increases in heating and cooling bills

  • Outdoor noise becomes more audible

  • Signs of physical damage
