DMV Heating & Cooling is a family owned-and-operated business that has been providing outstanding high quality residential and commercial service. Serving D.C, MD, & VA. Available 24/7. Our technicians are licensed and highly qualified to tackle any air conditioning and heating problem.

"If your homeowner insurance assigned DMV Heating & Cooling for your warranty repair REQUEST FOR ANOTHER COMPANY. My AC needed to be recharged with coolant. The technician insisted the AC condenser fins were dirty. He would not complete the repair without the $140 cleaning fee. (SCAM ALERT - see other Yelp reviews for the same scam). I told him already cleaned the AC condenser fins 4 weeks earlier with chemical cleaner and thoroughly washed condenser with water. He insisted it was not clean enough. I was without AC for two days and did not have time to get another contractor. I did not need this service. However, even if I did need the service. $140 for the 10 minutes of work was a total a ripped off. All the technician did was spray the unit with chemical and hosing it down with water from the outside of the unit. Since this company was referred by my homeowner insurance company. I made a mistake and did not do any research. I wished I read Yelp review before using this company. It also has a D+ rating from BBB. AVOID THIS COMMON $140 CONDENSER CLEANING FEE SCAM - REQUEST FOR ANOTHER COMPANY!!!"

"We have a 11 year old shower installation with two shower heads and four personal jets - any of these can be independently regulated with another mixing valve for water temp. The mixing valve would only give extreme hot water and one shower head did not work. I tried four other plumbers and none would even attempt the fix; neither Lowes nor Home Depot would either. Finally called Boswell - as the unit's foreign made parts were difficult to find and initially wrong parts were sent. After three visits and multiple parts Boswell repaired it. They stuck with it, refused to give up and finally did fix it vs. the other plumbers who would not even try. Only other alternative was complete replacement of the installation which would have required ripping out the tile on two walls and a completely new hardware! I did not even price that out."

Install Central Vacuum questions, answered by experts

The cost to install a central vacuum cleaner system averages about $1,600, ranging from $1,100 to $2,200, depending on the size of the system, add-on features, your home’s location, and age of the system. Accessibility to running lines and other equipment can also impact the project cost. Consult a central vacuum cleaner installation company for an accurate estimate of your installation cost.

The disadvantages associated with central vacuums start with cost. They are expensive to install, especially in existing homes, as retrofitting requires opening walls. The system's bulky hoses can also be inconvenient to maneuver and store compared to portable vacuums. Additionally, repairs may need professional service, adding to maintenance costs. Lastly, while powerful, they may be overkill for smaller homes or apartments, making the investment less practical for some households.

For the average-size house, a central vacuum installation usually takes one day of work by a team of professionals. Large houses may take two or more days. But if you are planning on a DIY project, it’s likely to take much longer. We suggest getting a few estimates for a project this big and fully understanding all the requirements before you make a decision about installation. Certain parts of your house may not be usable during the installation, and you may want to make other plans.

Central vacuums can offer huge time savings and an easier way to keep your home clean and even improve the air quality inside your home. While it is a high upfront cost compared to a freestanding vacuum cleaner, it can offer so much convenience and performance over many years, which may make it worth the investment if you can budget for it.

Technically, yes, you could install a central vacuum system on your own, but it is a very difficult DIY. There is a significant amount of planning, cutting into walls, and electrical wiring work that goes into it, which should only be performed by a professional. Because of the difficulty and expense associated with a central vacuum system, it’s worth it to hire a professional company familiar with the installation's complexities.
