"Wilber's Painting was able to rehab the townhouse in an adequate amount of time. He knew that special paint needed to be applied to block odors and stains, before new paint could be applied to the walls and ceiling. He fixed ceilings with water damage and repaired drywall. He worked diligently and the rehab was very successful. I highly recommend Wilber's Painting."

"Hugo and his team were great. They painted all the trim and 6 rooms. 2 ceilings. One wall repair. They were on time, respectful of our home, and meticulous painters. I still can't believe the straight edges. I would hire them again. Referred to several friends already. And cost was reasonable!"

"Josue is one of the most professional contractors I have ever dealt with. He was always prompt and quickly addressed concerns we had during the process. When they were unable to lift the drywall through the window on the 3rd floor, they cut it down and carried it up. They glued all their drywall to the studs to reinforce it and make sure there are never any nail pops. If there are nail pops their services come backed by a warranty. We had some crazy angles on the roof line but after looking at it, you couldnâ t believe how good it looks! If I was doing my project over again, I would 100% us VDC again!"

"Hugh Hall is honest, trustworthy and works hard. He enjoys fixing things and making them right. He fixed a landscape timber issue we had outside, rebuilt a raised garden bed, installed light fixtures, straightened the driveway markers and also completed a number of other small projects. Always professional, friendly, helpful and generally a great guy to be around,"

"Archie did an outstanding job repairing our drywall after a leak from our 5-gallon water cooler caused water damage to our basement ceiling. He responded quickly, arriving the very next day and getting straight to work. What impressed us most was his dedication and reliability. He returned every day until the project was completed, ensuring everything was done properly. The quality of his workmanship was exceptional, and the finished result looks fantastic. Archie has an incredible work ethic, is dependable, and clearly takes pride in his work. I highly recommend him for any home repair or improvement project!"

"I am completely satisfied with the patio ACH installed at my house. They were upfront about everything throughout the process, and finished the job on time as expected. The workers were professional and got right to work on day 1, wasting no time. They would call and let me know when the crew was coming back to wash the dust off the patio, seal it, build the sitting wall, etc. Great job and very happy with ACH- I highly recommend them!"

Wall Repair questions, answered by experts

Proper design and construction prevent erosion and add structural stability to landscapes.

Railroad ties can be good for retaining walls, but it depends on the area. They have a desirable rustic look and are durable. The problem is they’re treated with creosote, a preservative the EPA says poses a risk to humans and wildlife. Over time, the preservative seeps out of the wood and into the ground. Many areas have banned the use of creosote-treated wood on residential properties. If your area does allow it, never use railroad ties near an edible garden or drinking water source. Instead, use wood that’s treated with an EPA-approved preservative or a wood-alternative composite material.

Poured concrete is often the cheapest material for a retaining wall, costing around $6 to $8 per square foot. Other budget-friendly options include vinyl and landscaping timbers, which range from $10 to $15 per square foot; landscaping timbers are particularly well-suited for DIY projects. Untreated timber and railroad ties are a step up in price, starting at $15 to $25 per square foot. Natural stones can also be a cost-effective choice if you can source them from your own property, but they can be expensive to purchase. High-end materials like steel are typically the most expensive but offer superior durability and aesthetics.

The lifespan of a retaining wall varies based on its material, installation quality, maintenance, and local climate, with an average range of 20 to 100 years. Retaining walls made from durable materials like concrete, stone, and brick generally last a minimum of 50 years. Concrete walls typically last between 50 and 100 years, while brick can last for over a century in ideal conditions. Timber retaining walls can last from 20 to 40 years, depending on the wood quality, and pressure-treated wood walls average around 30 years. It is important to note that a retaining wall can fail prematurely if it was poorly constructed, for example, with inefficient footings or without necessary rebar reinforcements.

They prevent soil erosion, add flat space, and enhance property aesthetics.
