"Two shingles, which were improperly installed by the homebuilder, fell off the roof just before the remnants of a tropical storm came through. In addition, I was aware that the rubber seals on the plumbing vent roof flashings was deteriorating and needed to be fixed or replaced. I called Georgia at Spicer Brothers on a Thursday morning, and explained the urgency of my situation with the coming heavy rains. She worked with their projects manager to send a crew out that day. The repairmen who responded were experienced, and not only fixed the fallen shingles but also identified that surrounding shingles had been nailed improperly. They re-nailed several surrounding shingles and applied adhesive to reinforce the area as best as possible. The crew also installed permaboots over the plumbing vent flashings to prevent leaks. I was very happy with the service and price seemed reasonable, especially since they had to pull a crew off another job to respond to my emergency. I would definitely use them again for repairs and will look to them when it comes time to replace the roof. "

"Would be 5 stars based on the crew, but we had problems with the lead up to the job, which started 3 weeks late based on the salesman not understanding the scope of work and promising something that wasn't possible. The Friday before work was supposed to start, Gustavo (the supervisor) came to look at the job and let me know it would not be able to be accomplished the way we wanted. He worked with the Engineer (Scott) to figure out a way-ahead. Once the plumbers moved some interferences, the crew started. Eduardo (foreman) and his team (Jorge and Hector) did an expert job. They communicated each step of the way, were respectful of the inside of the house, took no shortcuts, and cleaned exceedingly well at the end of each day. These guys were top-notch! The best of the best! We were able to accomplish the first three of our goals: 1. Stabilize the house 2. Gain room in the basement. 3. Get lift to make the house [more] level. 4. Recover the existing beam for use over our fireplace."

No—you should always shut off the power and the water supply to the tank. Shutting off the water ensures that your water heater won’t continuously refill while you are trying to drain it, which would likely cause a big mess! Make sure to allow the hot water to cool completely before continuing the process of draining the heater.
Yes, pipes can freeze during the winter months. If temps dip below 20 degrees Fahrenheit for six or more hours, your insulated pipes are more at risk, while uninsulated pipes can freeze if temps fall below 32 degrees for around 12 hours. Exterior pipes are more likely to freeze than interior pipes. The best way to prevent freezing pipes is by insulating your pipes, keeping your home’s temperature above 55 degrees, opening cabinets and doors containing pipes to promote circulation, dripping faucets, and disconnecting hoses.
Plumbing leaks are usually not covered by homeowners insurance because the problems are avoidable with proper maintenance. In most cases, you’ll have to pay out of pocket for a fix. However, if the leak is a direct result of a natural disaster, like an earthquake that cracked a pipe or a house fire, your insurance may cover the repairs.
During the winter, pipeworks constrict and don't expand until warm weather comes. If it doesn't get very cold where you live, but you're still having a problem getting outdoor faucet handles to turn, there's probably a build-up under the handle. Mineral build-up is especially common in areas with hard water. Limescale causes faucets and stems to become resistant to turning. Worn parts and debris can also make it impossible to turn a faucet.
It is best practice to hire a plumber to install a bathroom sink and vanity. Even simple installations require basic plumbing work, such as connecting water supply lines and attaching the sink to the drainage system. While an experienced DIYer might manage a straightforward setup, any complex work, like modifying existing plumbing or installing new lines, should always be left to a licensed plumber to avoid the risk of expensive water damage. In most cases, a plumber will handle the installation, provided it is a straightforward job that does not require custom carpentry. It's important to outline your expectations with the plumber beforehand to confirm they can handle the full project.
