"Pablo is a very professional and knowledgeable Tile Mechanic, as he calls himself. He called promptly when I put in the general request for tile work. He showed up the same day, on time. His quote was very reasonable. He ended up doing two tile jobs for us - a kitchen backsplash and a ceramic tile kitchen floor. They look absolutely amazing and I really appreciated his suggestions for tile layout and after care. I would absolutely use him again and highly recommend his company."

"Wess was extremely professional. He arrived on time and was very proficient and finished the job a full day earlier than he had estimated. He met me at the tile store and gave me recommendations and suggestions on what floor tile would work best for my space. I will hire him and his crew again for another project I'm contemplating."

"Alon was extremely knowledgable about tile and grout. He was able to quickly diagnose the issues I was having, due to poor initial install several years ago. I would define him as "an old-world tile craftsman" who really understands the right way to do things and takes tremendous pride in his work and was able to accurately project the amount of time and effort to do the job right - with excellence. Although the price was a bit more expensive than I thought it would be, I am very happy because it looks great and I have the peace of mind knowing that it will last for many years due to the quality of reset, re-install and the sealant coating he applied. I would definitely hire him if you are willing to get a high quality, "get it done right" job!"

Ceramic Tile questions, answered by experts

Tile shouldn’t be set tight against the tub. Bathtubs can expand when filled, and they can shift slightly with the weight of occupants. For this reason, it’s important to leave a slight gap between the bathtub and the first row of tile. Aim for a narrow gap of approximately 1/16 of an inch, filled with caulk, to allow for this expansion and movement while still allowing for tile shower waterproofing.

The lifespan of tile flooring can vary significantly based on the material and maintenance. Generally, tile flooring can last anywhere from 10 to 30 years, but high-quality, well-maintained ceramic tile can last 75 to 100 years. To achieve a longer lifespan, you should clean the tiles and grout regularly, reseal the grout annually, keep the floor dry, and avoid placing extremely heavy items on it to prevent cracking. Choosing a high-quality tile (Grade 1) will also contribute to its longevity.

Like glass tiles, you will not need to seal most porcelain tiles, particularly if the porcelain is already glazed. It depends on quality. Porcelain is very water resistant, but it is not 100% waterproof. To avoid staining, some homeowners use a penetrating sealer. It is also a good idea to seal your grout. Unless you use epoxy grout, grout is very porous and can harbor bacteria, mold, and mildew.

The grout shade you choose comes down to personal taste and preference. A darker grout will give you a more dramatic and noticeable contrast with the tile around it; however, lighter grout helps create a more uniform look when blending the colors together. Additionally, a darker grout combined with a patterned tile could be overwhelming to the eye, while lighter grout makes the pattern stand out as the main focus.

Yes, you can tile over existing shower tiles, but it's better to remove the old tiles first for the best results. Tiling over existing tiles requires a clean, level surface and proper adhesion. If the old tiles are in good condition, you can roughen the surface to improve adhesion. However, removing the old tiles ensures a smoother, longer-lasting finish and prevents potential issues down the line.
