Customers say: Quick response

"I had 3 ceiling fans installed in 3 separate rooms. Each one was switch operated, where the switch previously controlled a wall outlet. The work was done quickly, well within the estimated time. The price was estimated on the phone prior to the work being done. The install went well, the crew cleaned up after themselves very well. The only negative is that two of the three wall outlets are no longer grounded. I would hire them again, and am considering doing so for another project."

For over 30 years, Root Electric Services has been serving the Northern Virginia area as a residential and commercial service electrician. The company is now in its second generation, being founded by Bill and Janice Root in 1986, and now growing under the direction of their son, Bill. Root employs a small number of professional, highly productive, and friendly electricians. \n \nRoot Electric sets itself apart from competitive companies by providing comprehensive, up-front pricing. That means Root Electric provides bids that include all of the components needed for each specific installation. In contrast, some contractors omit certain critical parts from the bid to win the job, then add them back in as a change order after the contract is signed and work has begun. Our customers appreciate that we tell then what they are buying, then deliver what we promised at the price that we quoted. \n \n

"Very pleased. Our 18 year old AC unit needed a charge. Aside from the fact that R-22 is almost extinct, the unit ran fairly well for a builder grade 10 seer. R-22 is quite costly these days. Service call was made with a fast response during a busy period. The unit was charged and inspected and the house cooled down. During the inspection it was noted that the gas furnace was rusted to a point where the gas valve had to be turned off. Time for a new system. AC and furnace replaced. There was one minor glitch but it was resolved. This glitch was no fault of the installers. The unit is up and running perfectly. There was no up selling. I had done my research and chose a system within our budget that would work well and it does. I chose Pope’s because a few years back they came out and gave me advice on my DIY thermostat replacement with no charge. I wrote a review back then and said I would call them when I needed service. They seem to operate under the radar - no TV advertising as far as I know. Their price is fair and I will be calling them shortly again to replace a gas water heater. Thanks"

Bathroom Fan Installation FAQs, answered by experts

The more surface area that a ceiling fan blade has, the more effective it will be at producing airflow. Therefore, a longer ceiling fan blade is the better option if you’re looking for more wind. However, a longer blade will consume more energy than a shorter blade.

Yes, you can oil an electric fan with machine or motor oil but don’t use cooking oil because it can become thick or seize up, damaging the fan. Before oiling your fan, turn it off and remove any dust and debris. Wipe away any excess lubricant after oiling.

It depends on your budget and cooling needs. Whole-house fans keep your home breezy by pulling in cool air and pushing out hot air. In places with milder climates, they can replace air conditioning. On the other hand, Attic fans focus on keeping your attic cool—not your entire house. Often, whole-house fans cost more than attic fans, with installation ranging from $600 to $3,600.

Yes, dust and pollen on a fan can trigger allergy attacks in many people. Additionally, fan blades can hold onto potentially dangerous bacteria particles before they die out. That’s why it’s important to keep all of the fans in your home clean and dust-free, which will help avoid any sickness or allergy flare-ups.

If your fan blades are spinning and there is no airflow, your blade pitch may be too flat, or your motor is failing. Adjusting the pitch is a simple DIY task if you have the tools. A failing motor is a bigger problem. You may need to replace your ceiling fan altogether. But fret not, we’ve got a guide for that!
