"Everything went very well, from the estimate to the complete installation. Randy was very easy to work with, and was very efficient. He needed to replace some of the wood, once he removed the old skylight, and the work was done promptly and perfectly. He did not try to push products or services that were not required and cleaned up the work area completely. I will definitely be calling Reinforced Skylights when skylight #2 needs replacing as well. This time I won't waste so much time waiting on other companies to return my calls. My only regret is I didn't know they could have worked on the dry wall replacement as well. Thank you for a job well done!

"Great work! Ben supplied pictures of the work in progress and explained everything that was being done which showed the roof being pulled back to the "studs" and then how they put the new roof on. They also replaced the skylight at no additional cost. I will definitely recommend them in the future!"

"Job was delayed a few times due to weather and the domino effect that had on other jobs scheduled around the same time as ours.  They started the job on a Friday morning but the crew were quickly called off to finish up another job and were supposed to return.  I suppose that other job took longer than anticipated so they informed us they would pick up their tarps and return on Monday to actually do the job.  When they returned on Monday they did the entire job in one day, which is impressive since the days are getting short this time of year. Throughout the process Kurt was responsive, answered the phone when I called and was good at messaging through Angie's List.  The only quality issue I noticed was one piece of siding displaced near a short roof section above a bump out window.  The way they did the flashing left a small portion of that siding displaced.  Also, their invoice could have been more detailed to document that they actually did all the things they said they would do in the Angie's List Big Deal coupon.  Clean up was mostly good, too.  I haven't found any nails in the yard, just a few tiny scraps of roofing material that didn't make it into the dumpster.

Update: On February 20, 2015, approximately 3 months after the roofing job, we found a piece of siding had become detached.  The siding had clearly become detached due to improper trimming and/or reattaching of the siding when they replaced the roof flashing.  A couple other pieces of siding adjacent to the roof above the 2nd story rear bump out section were also loose and poorly fitting for the same reason (I noticed that issue the day they did the roof job and I was planning to fix that section of siding myself in the Spring time when the weather improved).

To address the siding issue I called Kirk numerous times on the phone and he never answered my phone calls nor did he respond to any of my telephone messages.  I tried reaching him via Angie's List message and was ignored.  I finally was able to reach him through the "contact us" form on his website and he replied via e-mail and agreed to send someone out to look at it the next day.  Because this is now a rental property, I had to coordinate the inspection and repair with my tenants but Kirk never confirmed the time with me.  The repairman showed up without an understanding of the work to be performed and then asked our tenants for permission to use their land line telephone to call me, the homeowner.  I explained my concerns over the phone and the repairman who, speaking in very broken English that was difficult to understand, said he could do the repair but it would cost $275.  I authorized him to perform the repairs but I also told him I would be speaking to Kirk because I believed this was directly related to the roofing job that was just performed and Apex provided a 10 year workmanship warranty and I felt this should have been covered under that warranty.

I live 10-15 minutes away from the rental property and I immediately left my house to go to there to speak with the repairman and ensure the work was performed satisfactorily.  By the time I arrived the repairman had already left.  The repairman reattached the 24" long piece of siding that had come loose due to the seam not being properly secured  when they replaced the roof flashing.  However, he totally ignored the other pieces of loose siding that were improperly fitting above the small bump out roof section for the same reason.  Then I received a $275 Paypal invoice from Kirk.  Nice.  Apex should have done it right the first time but hey, mistakes happen.  The 10 year workmanship warranty should have covered the subsequent minor repair but Kirk refused to engage with me in meaningful dialog to discuss the matter.  So I declined the invoice and refused to pay.  It is indecent to charge customers a second time for poor workmanship when it should be covered under the warranty."

"Very well. Family business and someone would check on job daily. Liked Mr Parks. Lots of sons. All pretty much part of the roofing business. Knowledgeable. Did whatever I asked but Still feel I paid more than other contractors, But, I didn't get more estimates. The work was well done. Good cleanup too."

"Overall I am satisfied with the work that was done in my home.
Ben Meffley the Owner of Sky home improvement came to my home and gave me a better estimate than the previous company. I decided to go to a store to pick out the flooring myself and Ben went out of his way to pick it up for me.
He did a fantastic  job installing the floor, and tried to be considerate in cleaning up any mess left behind.
The floors look wonderful, and I couldn't be happier"

"I am very happy with the work performed by Advanced Glass. We solicited multiple bids, they were the lowest cost. Also, they were very helpful with design ideas (what works and does not). Install was on time (3 hours); very nice work. Cleanup and low noise. Excellent! Now we have a very fancy glass shower. Wife is very pleased and we saved several hundred dollars over other other bud prices."

Skylights questions, answered by experts

When planning out skylights and deciding how big they should be, it's important to look at the dimensions of the interior space. In addition to changing a room aesthetically, skylights influence the illumination and temperature of the space below. The U.S. Department of Energy recommends that a skylight’s size should never be more than 5% of the floor area in rooms with many windows.

Prevent future skylight issues by conducting regular inspections, ensuring gutters are clean to prevent water pooling, applying protective sealants periodically, and trimming overhanging branches that might cause physical damage to the skylight.

Ceiling costs depend on many factors, such as the material used and size, but coffered ceilings are considered one of the more expensive ceiling options. If you want to install a coffered ceiling but have a limited budget, consider using plywood instead of hardwood—it costs $2–$4.50 per square foot, while hardwood can be as much as $20 per square foot.

Yes, flat roofs can make use of a skylight or window to allow natural light into the home. When finding the best skylight installer, it’s important to pick a professional with experience working with a flat roof. The installer must pick the right type of window design to match the slight slope of the roof.

Whether you need a permit to install a skylight depends on the scope of the project and local regulations. Generally, permits are required if the installation involves altering the structural components of your home, such as moving roof rafters. In some municipalities, a permit might also be necessary if the skylight protrudes above the highest point of your existing roof. However, if no structural changes are made, a permit may not be needed. The cost for a skylight installation permit is typically under $100. A convenient time to add a skylight is during a roof replacement, as your contractor can incorporate the new opening into the design.
