"The fence looks great and the work was completed in a couple days. Good communication throughout the process. The installation crew was efficient and personable. The site was left clean both days. I would definitely call Good Neighbor Fence if more Fencing is needed."

"The cleaning was done well, without damaging my middle-aged roof. Price was reasonable. The owner was prompt, perhaps too much so. (He pushed coming out the day that he responded to my request.) My only serious concern was that, after he provided an estimate for replacing another roof (my garage's), and I reached back out to him sometime later to take him up on the offer, he never responded back."

"Fix All! in Richmond VA He is very punctual in time, courteous and professional. We hired him intially to assmble furniture purchased from IKEA, despite of the problmes encountred due to faulty piece of furniture he made trip to Lowes and fix it; to save me a 75 mile trip back to IKEA for an exchange of faulty piece. He stayed with us for two extra days and did everything we asked for at a very reasonable price and to our satisfaction. We had also given him a key to our home as he is very trustwrthy. He has become a life long friend for us for any help we need around our home."

"I would give the subcontractor who built and completed my deck an "A". The subcontractor and his team arrived each day promptly to the job each day.  If they had any feedback, they will leave a note.  They had ensured that the installed deck had completed the county inspection.   The subcontractor who had built the small patio, I would give him a B-.  There were some quality issues.
Now, for the Powerhouse Remodeling Company, I would give them a "C-".  They were very attentive when they were consulting about the deck.  Once the financing agreement was approved and signed, this was the last time I heard from them.  I thought I would hear from the company owner to ensure I was happy with his company.  Unfortunately, no response from this company.

"Joe is great to work with. He was always ontime, completed each project and was always open to more questions. He did numerous around the house jobs for me but the deck washing and stain was the largest and my deck looks great again."

Deck Repair questions, answered by experts

PVC decking can get slippery when wet because it’s made from plastic. However, composite and wood decking can also be slippery when wet. It’s best to wear shoes with grippy soles when walking on a wet deck, no matter the material, and to be extra cautious not to slip and fall down.

Applying too much sealer to a deck might seem like extra protection, but it can cause more harm than good. Wood is a porous material with a limited capacity to absorb liquids. When you go overboard with sealer, the excess can't soak in and instead forms a film on the surface. This leftover layer is prone to peeling, cracking, and trapping moisture, ultimately defeating the purpose of sealing in the first place.

Yes, deck pier blocks can be used as an alternative to traditional deck footings, particularly for small or low-to-the-ground decks. Unlike poured concrete and buried post footings, deck blocks don’t require digging or pouring. However, their use is regulated by local building codes, and they may not be permitted in areas prone to high winds, earthquakes, or hurricanes. Always consult your local building codes before choosing them for your deck project.

PVC decking tends to be cooler than composite because the material is less dense and absorbs less heat. However, it depends on the deck’s color. A dark-colored PVC deck may run hotter than a light-colored composite deck. If you’re concerned about your deck getting too hot, it’s best to stick to a light color such as beige or gray.

When building a deck, #2 grade lumber is a go-to for several reasons. It’s strong, budget-friendly, and works well for most framing and decking needs. But upgrading to #1 or Appearance Grade can give your deck that extra visual edge if you're after a cleaner, more polished look for high-visibility spots.
