Customers say: True professional

"Brad did a great job with our retaining wall, hardscaping, and pavers. He came on time and followed through as we expected. We had a number of change orders and Brad took care of these without any problems. After completion of work he cleaned the site well. He met all our expectations and it was a pleasure to work with Brad and we would hire him again."

"The installers were easy to work with and they did a great job. Our skylights look and work perfectly. This is very good company to deal with. They went out of their way to install the skylights that were of the best quality. The price was reasonable and working out the terms wasn't a problem."

"This was a very involved plaster repair and remediation job, in a very old house. Grady is the only person (or company) who was willing to take on the job and drive all the way from Pennsylvania to our home in Northern Virginia. There are very few people who do this kind of work anymore (we really searched) and he is an expert in his field. We needed to work around his schedule, because he is in demand in the tri-state area, so it took awhile to schedule the work to begin... but it was worth it."

Masonry questions, answered by experts

You must address leaning retaining walls, active water infiltration, and compromised chimneys immediately. In Lexington, always repair open mortar joints before the November freeze to prevent expanding ice from destroying the brick structure. You can safely delay cosmetic stain removal, minor repointing, and patio resetting until the warmer spring months when the ground completely thaws and new mortar cures properly.

Helpful?

Keep children and pets strictly away from active work zones to protect them from hazardous silica dust. In Lexington, windy valley terrain spreads this debris quickly. Schedule masonry work during school hours in the warmer months to minimize household disruption. Ensure professionals seal your chimney flue during repairs and secure temporary fencing around incomplete retaining walls to prevent accidents.

Helpful?

Repairing masonry is highly economical when you catch damage early. In Lexington, the winter freeze-thaw cycle causes progressive mortar and brick deterioration. Repointing these joints stops further structural damage. For properties in the historic district, sourcing matching replacement materials is difficult, making repair the clear choice. You should always address early-stage deterioration to avoid full reconstruction.

Helpful?

You will find several types of professionals handling masonry work across VA. General masonry contractors build standard brick foundations, steps, and retaining walls. Chimney specialists handle fireplace repairs and flue sealing. Historic restoration experts understand lime mortar matching for older properties. Landscape masonry professionals specialize in stone garden walls, while concrete contractors focus on driveways and flatwork.

Helpful?

Start by visually inspecting your mortar joints and chimney caps before the first hard freeze in VA. Document any crumbling mortar, missing caps, or deep cracks with photos for a professional. You must safely dry-brush white mineral deposits off brick surfaces instead of washing them. Never attempt structural crack repairs or apply modern cement to historic lime mortar, as this accelerates brick deterioration.
