"I just had the most positive experience with Jason and his crew from First Class Landscaping, Inc. In my opinion, they are "First Class". They removed four very large trees, two of which were in difficult areas, cleaned up as they went along and got the job done in two days. Cost was reasonable and the crew were all so polite and courteous. I would not hesitate to use them again or to recommend them to anyone. Thanks Jason!"

"This company was amazing. They are experienced and know what they are doing when taking down large trees. Elder is who I spoke to for my tree removal. He was very nice and always available to talk if I have any questions. He also gave me an amazing price to remove eight trees and a couple of bushes. Everyone was friendly and worked in a safe and timely manner. I definitely would call them again if I need any other work done"

"I only write a review when a company has gone above and beyond with their service. I know there are so many companies to choose from but if you want an honest, fair, professional, caring and truly knowledgeable company this one is 100% the one to choose. You can't go wrong with them. I used the text message option to get in contact (that was a great option) with them and within an hour they showed up at the door ready to help with my tree problem. I learned more about trees in 10 mins than I've known my whole life. If you want the best company out there you definitely should use Virginia Tree Specialist. ? If there was a 10 star ? rating I would pick that because that's what they deserve"

Arborists questions, answered by experts

On grafted trees, tree suckers will grow from the root stock, not the branches grafted onto it. Therefore, the leaves and characteristics of the suckers aren’t the same as the tree because they are different varieties. Root stock has more hardiness, strength, or drought tolerance than its grafted limbs, so if the suckers are from fruit or flowers, it might be different than the main part of your tree.

Bradford pear trees bloom in early spring with small white flowers. They typically flower for at least two weeks. In bloom, these trees often emit a foul-smelling odor that’s often compared to rotting fish. Bradford pear trees will sometimes bloom in the fall due to drought or other stress-inducing conditions.

No. Topping a tree refers to severely cutting down all its major branches and tree in a straight line. It was once recommended for streetside deciduous trees but has fallen out of practice. Topping leads to many problems, removing so much of the tree that many trees struggle to survive and become much more vulnerable to insects and diseases. Also, it doesn’t really help tree growth as once assumed and often leads to an ugly appearance of many sprouting stems in competition to become new main branches.

Since overwatering can harm mature trees just as much as a lack of water, it’s important to know the signs of an overwatered tree. If your tree’s leaves are yellowing, wilting, or dropping leaves, it’s likely that you’re overwatering. Other common signs include rotting, fungi, soggy soil, soft or peeling bark, falling leaves, and brittle roots.

If you realize that you’ve been overwatering your mature tree, stop watering and give the soil time to dry out. Then moving forward, increase time between watering sessions.

If tree branches cross well into your property line, in many cases, these branches become part of your property, and you can trim them up until your neighbor’s property line. However, this issue will vary based on local ordinances, so you should do your research before making any decisions. Better yet, speak with your neighbor about how to handle any tree issues.

If you don’t mind the branches, you can leave them be, but if they’re becoming a hazard, it’s definitely worth having a conversation.
