"Alan was very responsive and it was very easy to schedule an appointment. Although he was unable to keep the original appointment on Friday evening due to heavy traffic volume, he promptly scheduled for the following morning and arrived ahead of schedule. Alan is a one-man operation and did an outstanding job removing the items that needed to be hauled away. He even provides a pint of ice-cream for customer appreciation, which is a nice touch. The only thing I would caution about is that the truck used is a flat bed truck so there may be limitations on what and the number of items that can be hauled away. I am not sure that I saw that in the fine print. However, for an additional $40 fee that I believe was reasonable, Alan was able to cart away my extra items by placing them inside his truck. So, the big deal and the additional fee totaled $169. The normal fee without the big deal would have been $229. This was a win-win situation and I am pleased with the service. Wish I had taken before and after pictures of the junk so readers could see the overall major impact. Will so next time!"

"Bill and his helper Christian arrived to the house after our puppy made a mess on our carpet, they were able to remove the pet stains, and high traffic areas that other companies couldn’t remove. We are very pleased."

Garbage Removal questions, answered by experts

While unplugging your garbage disposal and plugging it back in may help, most units have an actual reset button, a bright red switch found on the underside of your unit. If your garbage disposal needs resetting, you may notice this button sticking out about a quarter of an inch from the surface of the unit, with which it’s usually flush. Simply depress this reset button to reset the unit, and then test to ensure it’s working about 10 minutes later.

These appliances certainly increase the number of things allowed down the drain, but they’re not foolproof. There are several items you shouldn’t put in your garbage disposal, according to manufacturers and technicians. Don’t put coffee grounds down the drain. The same goes for eggshells, potato peels, hard foods, onion skins, and any dry, expandable food. Most importantly, never put grease or oils down the drain.

Your garbage disposal will only affect the health of your septic tank if you’re using it too frequently, or filling it with organic waste that doesn’t fully break down. If the tank fills up with too many solids, the bacteria won’t have enough time to consume it before more is added, which can lead to an overflow in the drain field. Your tank will need to be pumped more frequently with excessive or improper garbage disposal use.

If your garbage disposal powers up and you can hear it hum, but the arms inside aren’t moving, the problem might be a stubborn clog, a build-up of grease, or a jam of the impeller plate. To troubleshoot these, ensure your unit is off and disconnected from its power source before checking inside the drain or attempting to manually rotate the impeller arms or plate from the underside of the unit. A hex wrench can help.

You may be able to install a garbage disposal on your own, especially if you're handy or have some experience with plumbing. However, if you have any concerns or want to make absolutely sure that the connections are installed correctly, you may be better off hiring a local garbage disposal installer to do the job.
