Customers say: Quick response

"Yurt Construction is a reliable contractor company with great expertise in kitchen remodeling but they provide many other services as well. Their cabinets (imported from Europe) are top-notch quality. They do excellent cabinet installation, finish projects on time, and the prices are very reasonable compared to what you find in the area. Also very responsive. I highly recommend for quality service and materials."

"Able to come the next day for an appointment. They did an excellent job; they worked fast, were personable (we felt safe with them in our home), performed the job well and even cleaned and vacuumed the work site and removed a large box. They did such a good job that I requested a quote to hang drywall in our basement. Was $140 for two workers for about 2 hours of work, but it was a complex job and easily could have taken longer.

"Amanda was really very good!  At first I was very skeptical, thinking why did I pay money to just speak with someone on the phone about my kitchen remodel project... but after just a few minutes of her addressing some of the issues/questions I emailed to her earlier, I knew it was worth it.  It was very clear that she knew her business and she gave me several ideas that I had not even thought about.  I told her that I would definitely recommend her to friends and I will very likely use her again myself for my next home project!

"the crews were great, everybody seemed to know what to do. the finished floor came out very nice. they also did a tile floor in the laundry room and pantry and that is also very good. we are however still waiting on a finishing strip between wood hall floor, and tile in bathroom, and a metal strip to finish off between tile laundry room and staircase to basement. some of the problem is that I am not always at the house needing the work, and Dennis isn't the best at calling me back when I leave him my schedule. so it hasn't gotten finished yet; but i'm sure it will eventually."

Basement Remodel questions, answered by experts

When choosing materials for finishing basement walls, consider factors such as moisture resistance, durability, and fire resistance. Opt for materials specifically designed for basement environments, like moisture-resistant drywall or cement board. Insulation with vapor barriers can help regulate temperature and prevent condensation. Consider using mold-resistant paints or coatings.

Research and consult with experts to select materials that are suitable for your specific basement conditions and intended use. Prioritize quality and compatibility to achieve long-lasting and aesthetically pleasing results.

Egress windows or doors are required in finished basements to meet safety and building codes. If your basement is unfinished and used as a storage space, egress windows are not required, but anything considered a habitable space must have an additional point of egress in addition to the stairs.

Making a window in a basement larger costs an average of $4,200. You’ll need to pay an average of $550 to have a structural engineer plan the project, $500 to $1,500 for the installation labor, and an average of $2,200 for the excavation and window well installation. The remainder will go toward pulling permits, installing trim, and repairing drywall on the interior.

Yes, adding a walkout basement will usually bump up your property value. Most homeowners prefer walk out basements because the exposed wall that’s level with the ground provides more utility via a ground-level exterior entrance, and they can fit full windows, which adds natural light and ventilation to the basement area. The only exception might be in areas prone to tornadoes, as walkout basements aren’t as safe as regular basements during a tornado, particularly if they include large windows or glass sliding doors.

Rebar is an essential part of reinforcing a basement floor, as not having it can impact its structural integrity. It helps absorb the tension factors that contribute to cracks in your floor and strengthens its load-bearing capabilities by evenly distributing the weight. Not including rebar could lead to an unstable floor, so don’t skip it!
