"This is the second time True Decks has done repair/maintenance/refurbish work on our deck. The work is consistently done well and is reasonably priced. The techs (Eduardo and Luis) who completed our recent work (4/15/26) were OUTSTANDING. They were professional, courteous and efficient and the final work product exceeded our expectations. WELL DONE...thank you!"

"Two level deck needed minor surface rot repair, power washing, and staining. Flores Enterprises LLC quoted and completed the work in the same business week. Attention to detail on staining is excellent. Provided photos of repairs and completed work and kept me informed on any issues which arose. Would definitely hire again."

"Great team who really worked hard to "upgrade" our tired looking deck! The deck is very large and 20 years old...its been brought back to life! We love it. Thanks to Mr Davis, Carlos and his team for an excellent job."

"Thomas and Antonio were very accommodating and efficient with the work they performed on our house. They repainted our front porch, pressure washed the siding and deck, repaired loose panels around the deck, and repaired/painted the railing to the basement. The quality of the work was high and they were able to answer all of our questions along the way. Would definitely hire again."

"I have a ten year old deck and Nikola from Seal Strong did a good job cleaning and staining it. He was very conscientious and detailed in his work and the price was excellent. I would definitely hire Seal Strong again."

"Kris was very responsive initially - following up with texts and emails. As time passed and weather impacted projects and his schedule, we had to reach out to him to check on the status of our deck project. He communicated rather late in the day that he could not make it to the home on the planned date. Overall, the work was completed and he was knowledgeable but there was some lack of communication between him and his workers - creating a need for us as customers to follow up to ensure everything was completed. Unfortunately the crew did not cover below our deck and we've come to realize stain leaked on to our ac unit, patio and children's toys under the deck and several screws were left in our potted plants. We are happy with the deck itself but getting to the final project took much longer than was estimated when we signed the contract and we were not impressed by his customer service and communication."

Deck Maintenance questions, answered by experts

Although composite decking is extremely durable, it’s also susceptible to extreme heat. Prolonged exposure to sunlight can cause fading, warping, and cracking. Composite also retains heat more than wood, which makes it dangerous to walk on in the summer. You can help prevent heat damage by only building with composite in shaded areas or using rugs to cover the hottest spots.

Yes, and in some cases, frozen ground may improve the digging process for footings due to sturdier conditions. It’s easier than working in muddy conditions, which are more common in the spring. Contractors may use machinery that makes this step a breeze, so harder ground shouldn’t affect the building process.

You do not have to dig footers for a deck as long as it meets local code and holds up to weather in your area. If you live somewhere that experiences high winds and earthquakes, you may need to dig for your deck posts. Deck blocks, post anchors with base plates, and helical pile systems are the three no-dig deck post options you can choose from if local code permits.

Yes, using sustainable materials and recycled composites offer green solutions.

Ideally, a gate should be able to swing both in and out. However, if it can only open in one direction, it is generally best for it to swing inward. This is often the safest option, especially for deck gates near steps, as you'll want the gate to swing away from the stairs. An inward swing also prevents the gate from opening into a public space, like a sidewalk, and can be more convenient when carrying heavy items like a wheelbarrow into a garden.

There are exceptions, however. The layout of your property may require a different approach. For example, if your property is on a slope, the gate may not be able to swing inward. You should also ensure the gate can open fully without colliding with any objects or blocking access to other areas. For a backyard garden gate where public access isn't a concern, the direction it swings is largely a matter of personal preference. Finally, always check your local building codes, as they may have specific requirements for which way a gate must swing.
