"I own an 90-year old historic colonial high school turned into a bed & breakfast. The windows were neglected over the past 20-30 years and in serious demand of work. Modern day window contractors were not going to understand this job. It's very difficult to find a contractor that will come through on a promise and has the skill to do as they boast. The day that Grady stepped into my 90 year-old home that needed historic window restoration, he became a part of the house. He knew exactly what had to be done. More importantly, he understood my expectations. These windows needed special attention. There was a level of detail required that not any expert would be able to handle. Grady took the time to learn their needs and stayed on the job until it was to my satisfaction. He even reworked an entire window just because I didn't like the way that it looked. Grady truly showed expertise with his ability to work on such a delicate job and even taught me a few things about historic window repair. He replaced broken antique glass with one just as aged and just as historic. If a window had to be completely rebuilt beyond his solid estimate, he did it without any complications to my budget. My windows are not only restored, but they are literally brought back from the past. Any enthusiast will appreciate the lint-seed oil, putty, and antique glass that was all restored to perfection. It was a pleasure having Grady work with us. He even stayed in the house at times to make sure he was available for the job. In fact, we're going to rename the room in which he stayed to "Grady's Den". Thank for bringing character and craftsmanship to my investment!"

"We purchased a deal through Angie's List for 5 triple glass, double hung vinyl windows from American Jewel Window Systems.  The deal sounded like very high quality windows with a lifetime warranty that is also transferable once to a new owner.  Perfect.
The 2799 price was a little high but the many reviews were very positive for the company and product.
We knew the company was in Northern New Jersey about and hour or so south of us.  They could not accommodate a Saturday appointment to measure because of this.  Ok, not a big deal, but I had to work from home part of a day.  Also, this deal does not specify a size limit and Angie's could not specify one over the phone.  However, there is a 99 inch per window linear size limit.
The windows with the specs we requested, bevel grids and screens were ready in less than 3 weeks.  Installation was scheduled quickly and took a half day.
The office personnel, measurement folks and installers were all very professional, neat, able to answer questions and did a great job.
The windows are extremely solid.  Better than the double pane vinyl double hung we had put in the rest of our house a decade earlier.  The feel tight, the room is warmer, and they function well.  Based on this I am confident that 10-20 years down the line they will still be in great shape.
The installation was done very neatly.  I felt they used a lot of caulking on the interior but it is smooth latex caulk.  They did a great job with the exterior aluminum trim connecting to our vinyl siding.
In all, a very solid product and installation.  I don't anticipate any call backs or trouble. The deal was a bit pricy for us since one of our windows was a smaller basement window, but American Jewel compensated by including a few extras which was nice of them.   Angie's also sent a $50 rebate check.  4 1/2 stars.

"Made an appt. with Castle Rep, James, for 17 windows and vinyl siding. He spent 1 hour talking about how great his company and windows are before finally getting down to the issue. We were told that CASTLE makes and services their own window, with all the best technology and technicians available. The price per window for energy efficient came out to over $1,200 per double-hung window! And since they make their own products, we could not find a way to compare quality and price with other manufacturers. But his per-window price exceeds the average price of $500-700 by A LOT! When we balked, he made a call to his "manager" to see if we qualified for a "special promotional" discount. If we were to commit right there on the spot, we would get an additional 10% off! Still way to high. We said we would think about it (he got sad and snippy), and that we wanted to hear about the vinyl siding quote before we made any decisions. He told us he could not give us a siding quote until his company did an "eagle view" measurement, which would require another appointment! We had no intention of sitting through ANOTHER high-pressure appointment. High pressure, long-drawn out presentation and he would not leave us with anything in writing! No brochures, prices, nothing! He refused to put anything in writing and we could not have a break down of labor and costs. I even asked him if I could have a copyhh of the window warranty and he said "only if you purchase right now." And they did not come prepared with references or previous job locations! When we further researched the company, we found they did make very excellent products, but the #1 complaint was by far that they did not honor their lifetime warranty and that customer service was horrible. In the end, we chose not to do business.."

"I was able to get single hung windows through them. They replaced a damaged window in the front and back. If anything goes wrong with the windows, they have a lifetime warranty, so they will get fixed. The problem I had was that two workers wanted to come back and fix something the day I had my family coming into town and that they had to reschedule. They never called me back to reschedule. I've been busy doing other things. They need to work on their communication skills, both internally and with the customer."

Glaziers questions, answered by experts

Whether it's better to repair or replace a broken mirror depends on its size, value, and the extent of the damage. For small, inexpensive mirrors, replacement is often the better choice, as the average repair cost of around $200 can be close to the price of a new one. However, for large mirrors—like those over a bathroom vanity or large floor mirrors—repair is usually more cost-effective. A new large mirror can cost hundreds or even thousands of dollars, while repairs typically range from $50 to $200. You should also consider the mirror's age and sentimental value. Antique mirrors and family heirlooms are often priceless and irreplaceable, making repair the most sensible or only option.

Glass has one of the longest lifespans of any fencing materials, lasting anywhere from 10 to 30 years on average. Just how long your glass fence lasts depends on several factors, including how well you maintain your fence, the climate, and the type of glass you use.

If you live somewhere with severe weather like hail, tornadoes, or hurricanes, expect your glass to have a shorter lifespan. Pool glass is one of the thickest tempered glass materials and may last longer than other options—especially compared to laminated glass.

DIY is possible for small mirrors. Professional installation ensures secure mounting for large or heavy mirrors.

All of the things you use to help you get clean can leave your shower door looking dirty. Water can leave mineral deposits as well as unsightly spots when drops of water dry on the glass. Soap and shampoo can cause build-up and residue that leaves a layer of soap scum in your shower, which then attracts dirt. Mold and mildew can also contribute to dirty shower doors; these fast-growing organisms thrive in areas with poor air circulation, damp conditions, and residue from things like soap and shampoo.

You should avoid multi-surface cleaners, bleach, and any cloth or scrubbing material that has a rough surface when cleaning mirrors. Multi-surface cleaners and bleach will get smudges and debris off of the glass, but they more often leave behind cleaner residue because they don’t evaporate like a glass cleaner or rubbing alcohol. Additionally, any abrasive material or even the scrubbing side of a sponge can scratch your glass or coatings on the glass, gradually making the mirror look hazy.
