"Our first project with Peak Roofing Contractors was to replace our rotten fascia and rake boards. Their estimate was the most reasonable out of 3. Our house is passive solar so the vent on top of the fascia boards was not typical and no longer available. Not a problem. The company came up with an innovative design and constructed a replacement. This exemplifies expertise and professionalism. The whole staff welcomes questions and the responses come quickly. We were also very impressed with Ryan Craft who makes site visits to discuss the project. He's very down to earth and leaves you feelingl that your home is as important as his own. He never appears rushed to go on to the next site/project. He and his workers even pointed out that our sunroom roof didn't have soffits which caused heat buildup that pushed up some of the roof shingles. He's like a "roof doctor" since he inspects the whole roof when a project may be limited to just one aspect. We've had the sunroom roof soffits installed and have also had the flashing around our chimney replaced when we had a waterfall come down the inside of our fireplace. Recently, we had a leak in our sunroom. Ryan was able to come onsite within a few days. He found some loose shingles and a rusty nail as the culprits and fixed them quickly with some roofing caulk. When there are so many contractors to choose from, it's comforting to find a company that provides reasonable quotes, on time project start times, and workers who have the knowledge, skills, and abilities to provide professional services."

"It went well. The doors look beautiful. I would have liked to get my front entry way and other work done, but the price would have been substantially more. Since I am pleased with the quality product, I won't complain about the price."

"Adam came for the original estimate.  He was knowledgeable, professional and answered my questions.  We set a date for the work and he advised I would be called the day before with details.  No call so I called and left a message.  My call was returned promptly by Amanda with many apologies.  She explained that the company was going thru a bit of a change.  I was very appreciative of her honesty.  She gave me the numbers for the roofing supplier and another client to assure me all would go well.  She certainly kept her word and the work was done in a timely manner.  She came to my home several times and called throughout the day to make sure everything was running smoothly.  We needed to do some adjustment to the original price and we were able to come to a satisfactory agreement.
My only concern was that I am still picking up nails and staples in my yard.  They did go around with a magnet and blew off the roof but
I am still picking up debris.
Amanda showed a great deal of integrity.  I would use this company again.

Skylights questions, answered by experts

The most popular treatment for a skylight is skylight shades. There are five primary types: manual, motorized, blackout, cellular//honeycomb, and Venetian. Motorized skylight shades are the most convenient, especially for skylights that are higher up, but manual shades are the most cost-effective treatments. Cellular/honeycomb shades are a perfect option for anyone who wants energy efficiency and an attractive look.

Pros of installing a skylight include the fact that you will get much more natural light in your home, skylights can make your room look bigger than it actually is, and your home may increase in value. Cons include difficult upkeep (you may have to get on a ladder to clean and maintain them), higher installation costs, and, potentially, too much heat gain from all the extra sunlight.

Leaks are the top concern for skylights, often due to improper installation or worn-out seals. Over time, water can seep in and cause major damage to your home’s ceilings and walls. Other common issues include condensation, which leads to mold, as well as physical damage from weather or debris. If they’re not sealed properly, skylights can also bring unwanted heat in the summer or cold in the winter, affecting your home’s energy efficiency and tacking on extra dollars to your bills.

Yes, you can cover up a skylight if you no longer wish to have it in your space. There are a few options for covering up a skylight. One option is to install a skylight cover or shade that can be easily opened or closed as needed, allowing you to control the amount of light entering the room. Another option is to cover the skylight with a solid material, such as plywood or drywall, effectively sealing it off. However, when covering a skylight, it's essential to ensure proper insulation and waterproofing to prevent any issues in the future.

When planning out skylights and deciding how big they should be, it's important to look at the dimensions of the interior space. In addition to changing a room aesthetically, skylights influence the illumination and temperature of the space below. The U.S. Department of Energy recommends that a skylight’s size should never be more than 5% of the floor area in rooms with many windows.
