"It went splendidly.. I couldn’t have been more impressed with the professionalism of the installer, Scottie Fralin! He made a recommendation as to complete replacement of toilets which he obtained for me since I am elderly and have neuropathy in my hands and arms, making purchasing and handling the pickup of not one but TWO commodes daunting. He cleaned up the areas after he completed the work, leaving me “good to go”! I suppose I didn’t realize the old commodes were nearly 30 years old. I’m pleased with the replacement choices! Thank you Scottie! And thanks for your patience with my chatter."

"I called on a Tuesday and spoke with Nancy. After explaining my problem, she had Paul Boston call me to discuss further before scheduling the cleaning. He called within a few minutes. After our discussion, we determined that the tank did need to be pumped, so I called Nancy back and it was scheduled for the next afternoon. Jimmy arrived the next afternoon to do the pumping. He definitely knew what he was doing and answered all my questions cheerfully. He was very friendly and courteous. I will use them in the future."

Sewer Cleaning questions, answered by experts

There are a few things that can happen to your sewer system if you don’t fix it. These include rainwater entering it and causing rust and corrosion, dirt and debris leading to blockages, small animals getting stuck inside and clogging your sewer line or entering your home, and shortening the sewer system’s life span.

Without a cap, nothing prevents toxic and non-toxic gasses like methane and hydrogen sulfide from slowly escaping your sewer system and entering your home and the surrounding atmosphere, resulting in a foul sewer odor throughout your house.

The cost to repair a main sewer line clog is about $3,110 on average. The average cost range is  $1,310 to $4,950, but it can go as low as $215 and as high as $9,300 or more. The cost factors for this repair include the severity of the clog, pipe accessibility, video inspection, removal method, permits, pipe material, labor rates in your area, and time of year. Repairs made from outside during the winter can be more difficult due to the frozen ground or during the spring if the ground is saturated from a lot of rain and snow melt.

If you’re wondering whether rats can come up the toilet, the unfortunate answer is yes, it’s possible, though it’s extremely rare. These rodents are excellent swimmers and can travel through sewer pipes in search of food, and they may follow plumbing lines leading to your home if they’re drawn by the scent of scraps and waste. The toilet’s U-bend holds a small pocket of air, which can help a rat catch its breath before making its final push into your bathroom. While more common in cities with larger rat populations, this can happen anywhere with connected sewer systems; sealing entry points and keeping drains clean can help reduce the risk.

Ejector pumps can only push sewage 750 feet or less. That’s because their purpose is to move waste from your home to your sewer line—which is a relatively short distance. Grinder pumps can transport sewage further, but they manage lower volumes of waste than ejector pumps (and they don’t work with septic systems).

Unlike regular cleanings, snaking your sewer line should be done as needed. There’s no reason to snake your sewer line if you don’t have any noticeable issues, like slow drainage or plugged drains. You can add it to your regular sewer cleaning checklist as a prevention method (on the same 18- to 22-month schedule), but it’s not always necessary.
