"They replaced my roof. The experience and results exceeded my expectations in every aspect - efficiency, competence, manners. The shingles were delivered and positioned on the roof peak the day before in an hour. The following day they had the entire roof replaced with all debris removed within nine hours. Couldn't be happier."

"Owner Tim Cave and his team did an outstanding job for us! We had a large, dimensional shingle roof that was overdue for replacement, and had a few challenges such as a couple leaks and 40 year old plus skylights needing to be covered. Tim took the time to talk through the options in materials and techniques that he uses to ensure the very best outcome. From replacing bad decking to scoring chimneys for proper flashing installs to prudent use of Ice & Water underlayment, Bulldog gutter guards, all new drip edge, pipe boots and ridge caps, they did everything with excellence. They went above and beyond, including fixing bad workmanship from the previous roof venting. Unlike some roofing companies, Tim worked right alongside his crew to ensure the quality. I had estimates from a number of firms and his price was competitive. He had been recommended by a family friend who was a roofer in a different category, when I said I was wanting someone who would be extremely quality conscious. We got that in Precision Roof Works. I recommend them wholeheartedly."

Roofing questions, answered by experts

Furring strips (also called wood stripping) are not always necessary for a metal roof installation, but they are highly recommended and may be required by local building codes or the roofing manufacturer's specifications. There are several key reasons to use them:

  • Energy Efficiency: Furring strips, made of wood or metal, create an air gap between the metal panels and the roof deck. This acts as a thermal break, reducing heat transfer into your home and improving overall energy efficiency.

  • Moisture and Condensation Control: The air gap allows for better airflow, which helps prevent moisture buildup and condensation under the metal panels.

  • Structural Support: They provide a solid, even frame to which you can attach the metal roofing panels.

It is especially important to use furring strips when installing a metal roof over existing shingles. Without them, the roof surface can be uneven, and you will experience greater solar heat gain.

The exact weight of a bundle of shingles depends on the shingle type, manufacturer, and other factors. It can weigh anywhere between 45 and 800 pounds.

The placement of snow guards depends on the individual roof, but typically snow guards are placed between 12 and 18 inches from the eaves, though they can be placed as close as six inches and as far as 24 inches from the eaves. A roofing professional can assess the roof and potential snow loads to determine the best placement.

Yes, gable vents can let water in. That being said, this usually only occurs during extreme conditions like heavy rainfall. You can prevent water from entering through gable vents by adding a screen that traps the water before it can enter.

Wooden roofs require regular maintenance, are prone to rot and mold, and are frequently the target of insect infestations. Natural wood is also excellent at absorbing and storing moisture—not a positive. In climates where the weather shifts dramatically, the wood can also crack, split, or warp.
