"SafeStreets Home Security was a lifesaver! They had to troubleshoot my 3 floor townhouse unit, requiring many trips up and down the stairs. Finally determined that I needed an entire new alarm system but had all the parts and equipment available. Helped me program the app and set my security codes."
"We moved to Chevy Chase MD. I contacted three different security companies. By far Ultra Guard Security was the best. Andy was very knowable about security systems and not pushy at all. If looking for security system give them a call. You will be pleased."
"I used to work in the security industry. Once I got married and had kids I definitely wanted a home security system. Bought ADT about a month ago and it’s worked out excellent. No glitches or issues and everyone was awesome in the buying and activation process."
"Abstract was great to work with. I had one vision for the project, and they convinced me to go another way. They were the only company that actually asked me questions about what I wanted from the system, and took time to talk to me what my best options were. From the few proposals I received, they were by far the cheapest for parts and labor. But the end product is great - we've been happy with how the cameras look like and what they are able to record. Overall, very highly recommended for professionalism, care in working with the customer, and price for quality."

"Fox Trail Electric provided us with excellent professional diagnostics and service. Our pool pump disconnect blew when we opened our pool, and we contacted three companies for repair estimates. Not only was Fox Trail the best estimate, Brendan and Moses very quickly found the source of the problems that the other two companies missed; this gave us immediate confidence in their capabilities. They arrived just before the appointment time for the repair and quickly got to work. They encountered and diagnosed a quirk with the pool equipment being wired from separate meter services (main house and outbuilding) and installed the correct GFCI breaker for the wiring to the pool heater, which our home warranty company failed to resolve. They installed a mounting post and weather-resistant timer and disconnect for the pool pump and organized and buried the previously messy, tangled, above-ground equipment ground wires that are no longer a tripping hazard. Brendan and Moses worked very well together and were very neat - nothing out of place when they left. Top-notch problem-solving, and we will be calling them again for other work. I highly recommend Fox Trail Electric."

"I self installed our FrontPoint system. It went smoothly and my questions were answered efficiently and professionally by the FrontPoint staff. I would highly recommend FrontPoint as a home security system."
"They were very professional. We had been with ADT for years but they kept raising our rates so we decide dto look at other companies and ended up going with Security One. We didn't have to get any new equipment, pay any start up fee or sign a contract. The $39.99 rate will NEVER go up which was very attractive to us. They even reimbursed us for our last month we paid for ADT. They have worked out very well since we switched over and would recommend them to anyone. Thanks Security One! "
Home Security Systems questions, answered by experts
To prevent false alarms, motion detectors need proper placement and settings. Start by installing them away from pets and windows where outside movement could set them off. Adjust the sensitivity settings to reduce the likelihood of it detecting minor motions. Consider using dual-tech sensors, for example passive infrared (PIR) and microwave technology, to improve accuracy and reduce false alarms. And don’t forget regular maintenance—cleaning the sensor and checking for any obstructions can go a long way in making sure your detectors run smoothly.
Thieves can open almost anything with enough time and the right tools, but they also prefer easy targets that are unlikely to get them caught. Forcing open gates is loud and difficult, and to be able to open one electronically requires extensive knowledge of the system, which most thieves don't have. Electric and other security gates are great deterrents because the thief will move to an easier target. If the thief is determined to enter your property, they will most likely find a different entrance point.
Yes, keyless locks can deter burglars, mostly because they boost security and offer advanced features. Most models allow for unique codes or temporary access, making it harder for intruders to break in. Many of these smart locks even alert you if someone tries to tamper with them. However, you need to remember that while they provide an added layer of protection, no lock is completely foolproof. Pairing these locks with good security habits—like proper lighting and surveillance cameras—creates a strong defense to help stop intruders in their tracks.
Whether a security system or security cameras is a better choice for you depends on your needs and preferred comfort level. A security system can cost more depending on the features you choose, but it’s a more proactive and protective approach to home security by alerting you and authorities of any emergencies. Using a security camera system is a more reactive approach because while you can monitor the camera footage, it does not alert the proper authorities for you.
DIY is possible for wireless cameras, but professionals ensure optimal angles, security integration, and network stability.
