"We can't say enough positive things about Professional Hardscapes. We hired them to repair our enormous rock wall that collapsed after a storm. The entire job took about 4-5 days...which was seriously amazing considering the scale of the project. Henry, the owner, was quick to answer emails or other questions we had. Periodically we would watch the crew (basically because we were amazed at their skill). They were pleasant and professional. At the end of each day, they cleaned up their personal belongings and at the end of the project, cleanup was perfect. They did not interfere with our daily routines in any way. The cost of the project was very reasonable. We will hire them in the future to repair other sections of our stone wall. This project came after we had a bad experience with another contractor, so we were cautious. Much to our delight, this was a completely different experience. It was a blessing to have hired them - what a peace of mind they delivered (as much of our driveway had been blocked by the collapsed wall and stone everywhere). There’s no single best asphalt grade—it all comes down to where and how it’s used. Highways and heavy-traffic roads need something tough, like polymer-modified asphalt (PMA) or Stone Matrix Asphalt (SMA). Local roads and parking lots rely on the Performance Graded (PG) system, chosen based on climate. A PG 64-28 mix, for example, handles a broad temperature range while simpler, more cost-effective mixes are typically enough for residential driveways. The best grade of asphalt depends on traffic, weather, and your budget, which is why a professional’s input is always a smart move before making a decision.

Professional installers often include a deep layer of crushed gravel under permeable pavers to allow more runoff to soak through into the soil below. Many installations will include multiple layers of gravel, with coarser aggregate at the base and finer aggregate that sits on top of that bottom layer. Above the gravel, you’ll often find coarse sand that helps reduce paver shifting over time. Some permeable paver designs include a water collection system set into the gravel layer to route runoff to a safe area for disposal.

Asphalt dries and cures best between 50 and 85 degrees Fahrenheit. This range allows moisture to evaporate quickly without causing the asphalt to cool too fast, which can negatively affect the drying process. However, keep in mind that other weather conditions can also affect curing and drying times, such as precipitation and humidity.

An ideal driveway gradient is between 2% and 5%. Anything lower than 1% or higher than 15% can cause problems for your car or property.
