"From the first contact and through to completion, Reggie Williams with Craftsmen Homes RVA was an absolute pleasure to have on the job. He was perfectly punctual, starting early and working late to get the job done in many fewer days than I could have even imagined. He was also flexible with on-the-fly changes and focused instead on crafting the vision I had for the finished structure. Based on his old school work ethic, skills, and professional demeanor, I highly recommend giving him a call for your next project!"

"I was very impressed with Sentri Homes - their customer service was excellent. They sent a subcontractor to install some vinyl laminate in my bathroom and he ended up getting glue all over the carpet in our bedroom. The sub ended up ghosting both me and Sentri, leaving me stuck with a ruined carpet. Sentri stuck with me for over a month to get the carpet replaced with the identical original and to get the vinyl job 100% completed. The carpet was a Home Depot exclusive and Sentri handled everything with them. I will be using Sentri for a much bigger renovation I have coming up soon, because I know that they will make sure everything gets done right no matter what problems come up. The vinyl looks great too."

I’m a highly capable, hands-on problem solver who enjoys figuring out how things work and finding practical solutions when others may not know where to start. I offer a wide range of repair, assembly, troubleshooting, and installation services.\n\nI’m experienced with electronics repair and troubleshooting, furniture and equipment assembly, mechanical repairs, vehicle diagnostics and repairs, and general handyman projects. I’m also skilled at reverse engineering and diagnosing problems by understanding how a system is supposed to work and identifying what is causing the issue.\n\nWhether you need something assembled, repaired, installed, diagnosed, or simply need someone who can figure out a difficult problem, I bring a strong mechanical mindset, attention to detail, and a willingness to take on challenging projects. I take pride in doing quality work, communicating clearly, and finding solutions that make sense for the customer.

Small jobs welcome

I have been working in construction most of my life. I have done full bathroom remodles, install electrial outlets and fans. I have installed bathroom vent fans and put together many home projects for customers. I am taking HVAC classes currently and plan to get licensed soon. Shower installs and faucet installs. I am a disabled Veterian so there are limits on my work, I can lift up to 50 lbs but have to be careful of my back.

Woodworking questions, answered by experts

Yes, Corian® and other solid surface materials can be cut with standard woodworking tools, such as a circular saw or a jigsaw. However, it is crucial to use the correct type of blade to avoid damaging the material.

For a circular saw, a tungsten carbide-tipped blade is required; a triple chip grind blade is highly recommended. For a jigsaw, you should use a fine-tooth down-cutting blade. Do not use blades designed for cutting wood, as they can cause microfractures that weaken the edges of the countertop. A diamond blade is also unnecessary, as those are designed for harder materials like natural stone, which Corian is not.

After cutting, the edge will be rough. It is essential to sand and smooth the cut edge to prevent microfractures, which can eventually compromise the integrity of the countertop.

No, you do not usually tip a carpenter for their work. However, if you’ve been very happy with the level of service and quality of work, a 10% to 20% tip would likely be accepted with thanks. If you’re not sure, it can help to discuss the carpenter’s policy or preference for tipping before beginning the project.

Yes, ceiling joists are typically load-bearing. However, their primary function is to support the weight of the ceiling and loads applied to it, like lighting fixtures and ceiling fans. They can also help support the roof, especially if they’re part of truss systems. Remember, the load-bearing capacity of ceiling joists depends on the material, size, and space between them.

Carpentry is a skilled trade and requires many years of experience to acquire the skills necessary to do the job efficiently and correctly. Because every home requires a carpenter at some stage of the building process, carpenters are typically in high demand. The higher the skill level, the higher the hourly rate the carpenter can charge.

Whether or not it’s easier to cut wood when it’s wet versus dry depends largely on the type of tool you use and the wood you’re cutting. For example, a chain saw should still be able to cut through wet wood with relative ease, but it may be more difficult to maneuver due to the wood fibers sticking to the chains of the saw.

However, you might want to avoid cutting wood entirely when it’s wet if you’re pruning your tree. Sawing a wet tree that you don’t plan on removing can also encourage bacterial and fungal growth and decay.
