"Kevin Crickenberger, Holiday Heating, provided us with exceptional quality service and value when replacing our 50+ year-old steam boiler. This project was difficult as it required disassembling the boiler to get it down a set of stairs into the basement and then reassembling the boiler and steam pipe network. Kevin and his crew went above and beyond to get this work completed. A power outage can damage your air conditioner, just like a power surge can damage any electrical device or appliance. In most cases, your circuit breaker or built-in surge protection on your AC unit protects your AC and just needs a reset. But in other cases, it might be that your AC compressor or capacitor was blown during the power surge. You’ll need to have an HVAC professional repair or replace any AC parts. 

If possible, avoid placing furniture in front of a return air vent. A blocked air vent can cause your HVAC system to use more energy, which in turn can lower the life span of your unit and raise your energy bill. Furniture can also trap hot or cold air, damaging your furniture or appliances. 

Professional duct installers suggest leaving between six and 12 inches of space in front of an air return vent. If you must place furniture in front of a return air vent, try to aim for putting furniture over a floor vent instead of in front of a wall vent, and avoid draping curtains over any vent system.

If left untreated, a frozen AC unit can lead to costly damage, especially to the compressor and evaporator coils. When ice forms on the evaporator coils, they become brittle and more susceptible to breaking. Plus, a freeze makes your AC system much less efficient, which means it's wasting energy and costing you more in your monthly energy bills.

Traditional central air conditioning systems require ductwork to circulate air throughout the home. Alternatively, you can add air conditioning with a mini-split ductless air conditioning system, which can be just as energy efficient as a central air conditioner. This type of system consists of two units–an outside unit that holds the compressor and condenser and an indoor unit that holds an air-handler. With multi-zone ductless systems, there are multiple indoor air handlers tied to a single outdoor compressor/condenser, allowing the system to cool multiple rooms.

A calculation method that your HVAC contractor will use to ensure your system does what it's supposed to is measuring duct output, or its CFM. The calculation requires knowing the cross-sectional area of the ductwork and determining the air speed past any given point within it.
