"I found Brian Devey through a neighbor of mine that had a project done and he couldn't say enough good things about his work. I knew what the costs were going to be before the work was started and there were no surprises. Brian showed up when he said he was going to and his subcontractors showed up on time and on schedule. My project was extensive. It included a basement addition, which was to be my new laundry room, with a ground floor wall pushed out half the width of the new basement which meant I needed a heavy-duty steel beam for the new wall to sit on with concrete covering the rest and a deck on top of that. The next phase was a wraparound covered deck, new windows, new siding, new roof, and a custom kitchen. We also tore out an interior wall to make a kitchen great room. Brian handled all the permits and the appropriate inspections. I didn't have to do a thing, except pick the colors, which wasn't an easy task. He even helped me with that. We are very happy with the results."

Small jobs welcome

"Ian was great at replacing a single gate in my over 25 year old chain link fence with a double gate. He was able to use the existing chain link, saving me money. He was professional in both his attitude and ability to complete the job in a timely manner. He was able to complete a job that other companies stated would cost twice as much and not even clear away the old gate. Ian cleared away the old parts of the fence and left the yard looking better than when he arrived. He even gave me information on other ways to have other repairs done on my porch and back deck. I highly recommend Ian."

"Stand Strong Fencing just finished installing about 200 feet of cedar fencing for me with two gates (including a double gate), and I couldn?t be happier! ? From start to finish, they were organized, professional, and so kind ? which really matters to me. They used metal Postmaster posts (LOVE ?), and everything feels sturdy and well-built. What I appreciated most was how they followed the grade of my yard with so much care ? I can be a little persnickety (guilty! ????), but they were incredibly patient and responsive. If I had feedback or noticed something that needed a slight tweak, they listened and made it right without hesitation. That kind of communication and follow-through is rare these days. ? Honestly, I?m so glad I went with them ? the fence looks gorgeous, and I feel completely taken care of. Thank you!! ?? ? Janelle C., South Jordan, UT"

"We had a composite wood fence installed in our front yard, and we're really happy with how it turned out. The fence looks fantastic-very modern. It's study and durable, and we love the natural wood look without the high maintenance. The team was professional and worked efficiently to get everything installed properly. They paid attention to all the details and made sure the fence fit perfectly with the layout of our yard. Overall, a great experience and the front yard looks much better with the new fence!"

Wrought Iron questions, answered by experts

A high-quality wrought iron fence is one of the most durable options available and can last a lifetime, or even centuries, with proper care. However, wrought iron is susceptible to rust and corrosion if not maintained.

To maximize its lifespan, regular maintenance is required. This includes:

  • Cleaning the fence with soapy water every six months.

  • Scrubbing away any rust or corrosion as soon as it appears.

  • Applying a new coat of paint or refinishing the fence every few years to protect the metal from moisture and oxygen. The recommended frequency varies, with sources suggesting anywhere from every 1 to 10 years.

If significant rust develops, it's wise to hire a professional fence repair company to clean the rust and reseal the fence. The cost to refinish a fence is typically between $5 and $12 per square foot, a worthwhile investment to ensure its longevity.

The ideal distance between fence posts depends on several factors, including the terrain, the purpose of the fence, and the material used. For different types of fences, here are some general guidelines:

  • Wood and Metal Fences: Posts should be spaced between 5 and 8 feet apart.

  • Vinyl Fences: Spacing can be between 6 and 8 feet.

  • Chain-Link, Mesh, or Lattice Fences: Posts can be set anywhere from 4 to 25 feet apart, with 4-10 feet being common for chain-link.

  • Wire Fences: Spacing can be up to 12 feet apart.

The cost to build a fence is about $3,100 on average, but you could pay anywhere from $400 to $13,700 or more. Your cost will depend on the length, height, and materials for the fence. If you hire a professional installer, labor costs typically represent about half of the total cost of the project. This means you potentially can save quite a bit of money doing the work yourself.

The most common type of metal fence today is one made of either steel or aluminum. These materials are relatively easy to fabricate, making them much more cost-effective than traditional metal fencing handmade from wrought iron. They’re also much lighter and easier to install, contributing to their affordability and making them more DIY-friendly.

Yes, fence posts need to be installed below the frost line to ensure stability and prevent heaving caused by freezing and thawing cycles. The frost line is the depth at which soil freezes during winter. By placing posts below this line, often around 3 to 4 feet deep or as recommended for your specific region, you reduce the risk of the ground shifting, which can lead to leaning or unstable fences. Adequate depth provides better anchoring and helps maintain the fence's integrity, ensuring it remains secure and upright throughout changing seasons.
