"When I arranged for the work [removing tub to install walk-in shower with all new subway tile walls and all new fixtures and grabbers, etc.} The first thing I became aware of was that LifeSpan's quote was literally about half of a previous quote I had sought out. John and Ryan, the installers, were magnificient to say the least. Being personable is always a plus. They seemed a bit skeptical of how low I wanted things installed....but once i stood in the shower, they did exactly what was needed....to say the least, I am not tall. The work took two days and later on another visit for a minor fix-up. I can't say enough about the masterpiece they created. The timing is perfect because I need to use all the little old lady options. From start [visiting showroom] to finish, it was perfect home improvement experience. As an apartment dweller, I cannot engage them on their other installations, but I would if I could. Office staff [Kalena, Russ, Matt, Jamie, etc.] were noteworthy as well. And as an unintended consequence, the flow of hot water in bathroom and kitchen much improved."

Plumbing questions, answered by experts

In UT, hard water takes a heavy toll on your plumbing, causing rapid sediment buildup in water heaters that requires frequent attention. Faucets and showerheads also clog quickly from mineral deposits. Additionally, expect to repair outdoor irrigation systems due to extreme summer heat and winter freeze-thaw cycles. High municipal water pressure also makes pressure reducing valves a mandatory replacement item for local homeowners.

Helpful?

To prioritize plumbing projects, assess your immediate risks. Address exposed pipes instantly before winter cold snaps to prevent freezing. Treat a rumbling water heater or visible pipe corrosion as urgent, since Hurricane's hard water accelerates damage. Fix slow drains before the summer monsoon season arrives. Wait to fix minor faucet drips during a scheduled visit. Act quickly on severe issues to keep your home safe.

Helpful?

For interior plumbing, choose PEX piping. It handles local freeze-thaw stress and resists scale buildup far better than rigid alternatives. Select water heaters equipped with sacrificial anode rods and large flush ports to combat Hurricane's severe hard water. Install freeze-rated hose bibs and UV-resistant materials for all outdoor applications. Always ensure any supplies contacting your drinking water hold proper state-required safety certifications.

Helpful?

Before scheduling plumbing work, note whether your home uses municipal water or a private well. Record the status of any water softeners, as this helps professionals diagnose scale issues. Document your home’s build year, previous repiping, and the exact locations of your main shutoff valve and water heater. Finally, photograph any visible corrosion or leaks to give your Hurricane contractor a clear starting point.

Helpful?

Start by verifying local permit requirements before beginning any plumbing upgrades. Schedule non-urgent work in early fall to avoid the peak summer construction rush and prepare for winter freezes. Coordinate main water shutoffs directly with Hurricane city utilities. Clear access to your water heater and shutoff valves in advance. Finally, plan to address existing hard water scale buildup during your project.
