"Tony and his team did a great job. I will recommend them to all my friends finishing their basements. I had Tony's crew mud, tape, texture and sand my entire basement. They also hung sheet rock in the room I hadn't finished yet. Thanks Tony!"

"I hired Moses to replace drywall, texture and paint my basement. He is a perfectionist in his work, and even went so far as to redo a whole wall because he didnt like how it turned out. He takes extreme pride in his work. He was very careful and clean and took great care to protect the rest of my home from dust. He was always on time and communicated with me every step of the way. I am thrilled with the result. I recommend him wholeheartedly!"

Customers say: True professional

"I put in the request Saturday night and Daniel responded from Angi.com. He was able to give me a quote for the work and we scheduled for Tuesday. That is so wonderful because I needed the work done quickly. He was fair and professional. He cleaned up as well and if I have more drywall issues I would call him! Thank you Daniel for your professional work."

Small jobs welcome

"Mark was awesome to work with. He is very personable, but also professional and skilled at what he does. Our job was not very big (mud for a new wall on the inside and outside of a stairwell), but he was really fairly priced and did the job really well. I was amazed with how he matched our existing texture. He also does the job right, quick, and clean. I would definitely hire him again and recommend him for anyone else looking for a drywall expert."

Drywall questions, answered by experts

You should wait at least 24 hours for drywall mud to dry before sanding or applying another coat. However, the exact drying time depends on several factors, including the thickness of the application, room temperature, humidity, and the type of compound used. Thicker layers, or projects in high humidity, may require 48 hours or more. Lightweight compounds tend to dry faster than heavier, all-purpose ones. You'll know the mud is ready when it feels completely dry and firm to the touch and has changed to a consistent light color. Sanding too early can cause smudging or gouges, so patience is essential for a smooth finish.

Drywall is safe to cut as long as you follow proper procedures, such as wearing personal protective equipment and using the right tools to score and cut the drywall. When cutting new drywall, it can release dust with silica and other compounds that could pose health risks. Leave cutting drywall to the pros, or wear a high-quality respiratory mask, goggles, and other PPE when handling drywall.

To properly clean and maintain your skip trowel drywall texture, dust the surface weekly with an electrostatic duster or vacuum with a soft brush attachment. Never scrub the surface. You can remove stains by gently applying a mild detergent solution with a paint roller, removing it with a damp roller, and drying with a dry roller. To cut down on cleaning frequency, avoid indoor smoking and limit the use of fireplaces.

The best tool for skim coating drywall is a skim coating blade, which can smooth out joint compound in wide stretches. While you could use a smaller drywall knife for skim coating, the smaller size means it’ll take longer to smooth out each section. Instead, consider investing in a skim coating blade for the quickest application.

Applying plaster to a wall will usually cost between $2 and $10 per square foot for both the material and labor. The cost will vary based on the quality of the plaster you’re using and whether or not prep work is required before the work begins. Wall prep can add up to about 10% to your total costs. Plastering exterior walls can be more expensive in many cases because they are taller and require scaffolding and safety equipment.
