"The crew did an amazing job on my counter tops! I chose to have the backsplash go continuously granite. They picked the right slabs of granite for both, and the look is amazing! I would recommend them again."

"Brach is the best!!! I though the basement build out was going to take many months to complete, but he punched it out in weeks. He's very up front in his pricing and there were no surprises whatsoever. Build quality was exceptional and we are very pleased."

"I hired Grout Doctor East to repair grout, clean and seal 800 sq ft of floor tile. Jordan spent more than two hours removing and replacing grout, and testing sealer. When he determined that my floor had problems that would cause the grout to crack again, he stopped the job. He contacted me and let me know the situation and that there would be no charge for the work he had completed. When I got home, everything was clean and looked much better than I had left it. Randy and Jordan explained the problem with my floor and gave me suggestions on what I might do to correct it. I am very impressed with the integrity and work ethic both Randy and Jordan delivered to me. I would highly recommend Grout Doctor East and would definitely hire them again."

Stone Countertops questions, answered by experts

There are many differences between solid surface and quartz countertops. Whether one is as good as the other will depend on what you value most in a counter. These two materials are nonporous, although quartz is more durable. Some people may prefer the look of quartz, although they’re both available in many different colors and designs.

Silestone® is a brand of quartz countertops; one isn’t necessarily better, but they have their differences. Silestone® costs slightly more than the average quartz countertop because you’re paying for the brand name and unique features. For example, Silestone® is often more sustainable than regular quartz because you can purchase varieties made with recycled materials. It also has antibacterial properties and design options some homeowners prefer. Plus, you can use it across your whole kitchen rather than solely for countertops.

Mitered edge countertops are usually 2 to 2.5 inches thick. The thickness accounts for the 45-degree angle required to form a seamless corner, resulting in a dramatic and thick-edged appearance.

No, you should not put a hot pan or pot directly on a quartz countertop. While quartz is generally heat-resistant, the resin binders used in its manufacturing are sensitive to extreme heat. Placing a hot pan on the surface can damage the resin, leading to discoloration or other cosmetic issues. If the heat exceeds 150 degrees Fahrenheit, it can cause permanent damage, such as burns or even cracking. To protect your countertop, always use trivets or hot pads.

It is not recommended to put a hot pan directly on a marble countertop. While marble is heat-resistant, it is not completely heat-proof, and extreme or prolonged exposure to high heat can cause discoloration, cracking, or chipping. Pans may also scratch or nick the surface. To protect your countertop and maintain its integrity, always use trivets or hot pads. Note that faux marble finishes do not resist heat and require protection from hot items at all times.
