"Excellent work from start to finish! It was a huge job and we had just been burned by a previous contractor on a different project so I was hesitant. They showed up when they said they would, had timely communication, cared about making it right, quality workmanship, great problem-solving and team work, very friendly and honest and hard-working. I can't recommend them enough and would be happy to hire them again for any project at our home! Thank you, Romero Landscaping--we are exceptionally happy with a beautiful yard and a job well done!"

"We needed our backyard grated and leveled so that we could zeroscape. There was a lot of growth from neglect of the previous owners and SLC Landscaping did a terrific job in getting it ready for us to work with. Will use again when ready for our front yard."

"My family has been in the general contracting business for 70 years. I understand the goal of any good contractor is to exceed the expectations of those he serves. My experience with Preston was exemplary of that goal. I would recommend his service to anyone looking for a quality excavator or landscaper, honest, fair, reliable, and timely service."

Landscaping questions, answered by experts

It depends. Smaller, younger trees take longer to mature, but they're more resilient, their roots don't get as damaged during transplanting, and they recover faster. Plus, they're much more affordable to plant, and it's possible to DIY the planting.

On the other hand, mature trees produce fruit faster and provide more shade and privacy immediately. Ideally, a small or medium tree is the better choice if you can wait a few years for it to mature. But if you need immediate maturity, a larger tree is the only option.

Yes, you can absolutely transplant bushes instead of removing them completely. The success depends on the size of the bushes, their age, and the transplanting season. Ideally, transplant during the dormant season (late fall or winter). Dig out the entire root system in one piece, fill the new hole with fresh soil and mulch, and water thoroughly after planting.

The best landscaping for a septic drain field is shallow-rooted grass or native vegetation that helps prevent soil erosion while allowing water to evaporate efficiently. Avoid planting trees, shrubs, or deep-rooted plants near the drain field because the roots can infiltrate pipes and cause blockages. Using mulch or gravel sparingly can also help retain moisture and protect the system without restricting airflow.

Buying plants from a nursery is one thing, but ensuring that they are properly planted is another. While you might not need to hire a landscaper for every plant that you buy from a nursery, it’s a great idea to have their expertise and experience to plant larger items, like burlapped trees or specialty plants like rose bushes. Even better, before making a trip to a nursery to buy new plants, consult a local landscaper to test your soil for pH levels, soil texture, and phosphorus and potassium levels to help determine the best plants for your area.

You should use mulch because it protects garden soil in a few key ways. This extra layer between the ground and the elements protects against erosion, helps your soil maintain moisture, regulates changes in temperature, adds nutrients as it decomposes, and keeps weeds at bay.
