"We would give Cody 10 Stars if they were available. He has installed two paver patios for us and our experience with the first prompted the second. On time; responsive; responsible and a true artisan who takes the time necessary to do it right the first time. Plus, his price was reasonable and he’s super easy to get along with. He will be our first choice for any work that is within the scope of what Aspired Custom Creations does."

"I hired Aridscape to design and build my backyard in early 2025. David O Callaghan was the first person I spoke with from the company, and he was great! I had a general idea of what I wanted, but David helped me put together a full plan for a back patio, fire pit, and kitchen. The design came together quickly, and when I changed my mind on a few features he was understanding and able to adjust. Construction for the project began in early Spring… turnaround was quicker than I expected, and the quality of everything they built and planted has been excellent. I highly recommend Aridscape Utah for design work or landscape construction… Ask for David O Callaghan for your design - he’s fantastic!"

Retaining Wall Installers questions, answered by experts

Proper design and construction prevent erosion and add structural stability to landscapes.

Poured concrete is often the cheapest material for a retaining wall, costing around $6 to $8 per square foot. Other budget-friendly options include vinyl and landscaping timbers, which range from $10 to $15 per square foot; landscaping timbers are particularly well-suited for DIY projects. Untreated timber and railroad ties are a step up in price, starting at $15 to $25 per square foot. Natural stones can also be a cost-effective choice if you can source them from your own property, but they can be expensive to purchase. High-end materials like steel are typically the most expensive but offer superior durability and aesthetics.

Yes, you can use cinder blocks for many purposes, including retaining walls, foundations, garage walls, and fences. Building a cinder block retaining wall costs between $60 and $200 per linear foot, including materials and professional labor. For a 30-foot-long retaining wall, the cost ranges from $1,800 to $6,000.

While vinyl is the least costly material for building a retaining wall, the most cost-effective method is to use wood or concrete blocks for a DIY retaining wall under 2 feet tall. Wood is inexpensive but lasts 20 years or more with care. Concrete can cost a little more but is stronger and will last longer with less maintenance.

Generally, a railroad tie retaining wall consisting of a single line of ties should be between 3 and 4 feet tall—and the height often tops out at around 6 feet. You can go taller, but you may need additional footings and reinforcements, including a second layer of railroad ties to support the added weight of the soil it’s holding back.
