"We were so impressed with the quick and professional work done on our new driveway. They did an excellent job! They took extra time each day to clean up and make everything as clean and easy as possible. We absolutely recommend this company and we will be coming back to them again for any other landscaping needs we may have."

"Beto and his family worked very hard to do all this difficult work. They have all the necessary equipment and tools and know how to use them. Their business is a family business and his whole family does the work under beto's expert guidance. Beto does not cut corners and skimp on quality. He preps the area first and puts road base down and tamps it down for a solid foundation. Then he forms everything up and even puts rebar in the cement and uses quality cement with fibers in it for more strength. Beto rebuild 3 crumbling brick pillars and leveled one of them that was sunken and leaning badly because the guy that put it in did not put roadbase and a footing in like he shud have when he built the pillars. It was very difficult and tricky work but beto and his family found a way to get it done. The ugly cement caps were also replaced. It looks great now. Beto and his family have not only earned my trust in them to do quality work, often under difficult circumstances, but have become good friends of mine as well. No job goes perfectly and there are difficult decisions, and surprises that come up during the work at times but i wud highly recommend Evia Concrete LLC for any of your concrete needs. I think their pricing is fair, especially considering the quality, no corner cutting work they do."

Small jobs welcome

"I called David Trail because my roof was leaking into the kitchen and more rain was on the way. He was the first contractor to show up. After walking the roof, he decided that the problem wasnâ t roofing, it was cracked caulking around the vents. I signed for the repair and his workers did enough to see me through for the next few days. The rain fell, but not in the kitchen. When he came back, I invited him to walk the property and bid on patching and repainting problem areas of the house and walls. The price sounded quite good: Had he seen all the cracks and loose plaster? But they didnâ t just patch and paint. They completely repainted everything. And depending on the work of the day, it was quite a crew. As many as seven energetic, highly skilled young men who, I discovered, were all members of his family. They always worked until sundown, sometimes later. On the last day, they came back after dark to finish the clean-up. In the end, the work was excellent, as was the total price. So I do recommend that you have him out to look over your problem areas. As for me, I have no more problem areas. Itâ s all perfect."

"Jaime was knowledgeable, and willing to adapt to my complicated project. He did a standard footing/foundation with a 24â X24â slab, for an addition, that turned out great. Also, a large monolithic pour for my detached garage, that would be challenging for anyone. He also dug and connected my sewer and water for the garage restroom, as well as the underground conduit for the electrical service. I highly recommend JCR, as a smaller company, that can easily tackle large projects."

Asphalt Driveways questions, answered by experts

When comparing installation costs, asphalt is often less expensive upfront than concrete. Asphalt prices typically range from $7 to $15 per square foot, while concrete can range from $3 to $18 per square foot. However, long-term costs should also be considered. Concrete driveways generally last longer (up to twice as long) and require less maintenance, which can make them more affordable over their lifespan. While asphalt has a lower installation cost and is easier to repair, it requires more frequent maintenance, such as sealing, which can add up over time. Therefore, while concrete is more expensive initially, its durability may offset the cost in the long run.

Asphalt driveways are affordable and able to withstand sub-zero temperatures. The asphalt surface makes it easy to plow snow, and it has excellent traction for slippery winter days. Another benefit: it absorbs heat from the sun and can then help to melt snow and ice more quickly than other surfaces.

Driveway aprons typically range between four and seven inches thick, though your town's building codes will likely have specific requirements. Additionally, you may need to add a layer of permeable aggregate in the excavation below your paved apron to ensure proper stormwater drainage.

Asphalt and tarmac are not the same thing. Traditional tarmac, short for tarmacadam, uses tar as a binder to hold crushed stone together. Asphalt uses bitumen—a byproduct of crude oil—to bind aggregate. Though tarmac was once a go-to for roads, asphalt has become the modern standard. And these days, most surfaces referred to as “tarmac” are actually asphalt. So, while the names may overlap, the key distinction lies in the binder—tar for tarmac and bitumen for asphalt.

The answer to whether or not you need to get a permit before you start your driveway can vary widely based on local ordinances and the scope of your driveway ideas. In most urban and suburban areas, a permit is needed before building a new driveway to ensure that a homeowner is using safe materials and proper drainage practices while designing and constructing a new driveway. In some rural areas, a homeowner may not be required to apply for a permit. When building a new driveway on your own, always check with your local building department to see if you need to request a permit. When hiring a driveway contractor, verify that the right permits are being used before driveway construction begins.
