"UGLY DUCKLING INTO A BEAUTIFUL SWAN If I could give TEN stars i would. Highly experienced in what Kirk Morgan and his crew does. Meticulously detailed expertise on details even offering ways to be better than I expected to be. Patiently explaining many options with pro and con. Worked Monday through Friday all day long. Consistently showed up. Corrected what the previous two contractors had messed up to bring to high quality look and structural integrity. I have recommended to people needing work done or house built and will continue to recommend to anyone I can. Wellllllll worth the money I spent. High quality workmanship and straightforward on what needs to be done Lemme change something. FIFTEEN STARS!!!!!"

"Juan and his helper did a beautiful job installing a limestone wall for my front yard flower bed. They also put dirt in and even drilled holes for drainage, which I'd never thought of. They were on time, prompt, and Juan always communicated what was being done, what should be done, and kept me updated on the timeline of the project. These gentlemen were outstanding. I would definitely use JCD and DF Services again!"

"Overall happy with the project. Didn't like the masonry work, as spaces between border rocks was different sizes & too large. Price was a bit high but they are reliable. Showed up as scheduled & finished the job on time."

"The cold weather caused the company many delays, but some delays were caused by equipment breakdowns and poor management of time by the company. the job took two months to complete.  The company took the time to coordinate by phone then often would not do what they said and did not communicate that to me.  They did the job in so many phases that the joints between sections are rough.  Preparation of the substrate could have been better as I have many plants growing up through the asphalt on the margins.  Overall the road is acceptable and for a reasonable price and much better than the previous dusty road I replaced.  I think the company is honest and does well as a small family owned business.  The cold weather is problematic for asphalt as the plants close down often and that is out of control of the small contractor.

"Hilario and his crew replaced a deteriorating railroad tie, two-level retaining wall, which stretches the entire length of our back yard. They worked diligently, were respectful of our property, and were very professional, and easy to work with. It was a huge and complicated job, but they did a beautiful job, getting it finished within two months time, at a very reasonable Price. We are more than pleased with the quality of their work, and will be hiring them again."

Retaining Wall Installers questions, answered by experts

Yes, including patterns, finishes, and plant integration for aesthetic enhancement.

A retaining wall can only function as a fence if it’s high enough on all sides to prevent someone from accidentally falling into the pool. However, most retaining walls retain dirt, which means their purpose is not related to safety. There would need to be nothing on the other side of the wall for it to be considered a fence, but in that case, it wouldn’t retain anything and would cease to be a retaining wall.

To maintain the integrity of your landscape, a retaining wall must be installed if the slope of the angle exceeds 35 degrees. The lean of the wall must be 1 inch per 12 inches in height to disperse the weight of the soil uniformly and guarantee the correct drainage of the soil.

If you don’t backfill a retaining wall—either at all or adequately enough—the wall won’t drain well, and water will be able to pass through it. Poor drainage will lead to a warped wall or a buildup of hydrostatic pressure, which can eventually collapse your retaining wall. If you have particularly sloped land, consult a structural engineer to ensure your hardscaping is adding value to your home.

Most retaining wall installations can be finished in one to three weeks, but the timeline varies based on factors like wall size and material. The local climate and major weather events, such as storms or flooding, can also extend the project's timeline, as can any holds ups in the permitting process.
