"I learned of Ruddy Roofing via KLBJ radio advertisement. I called Ruddy to confirm his company could work on a standing seam metal roof, which he confirmed. I then explained the roof was located 2 hours west in the Hill Country. He agreed to drive out to survey the wind damage and to meet with the insurance claim adjuster. Ruddyâ s knowledge as a previous adjuster helped me greatly to identify additional storm damage of which I was unaware. In short, Ruddyâ s legacy in the roofing industry, follow-up, and knowing specific details was a great find for me. The project took 5 days to replace two roof structures totaling 6,700 sf using 24 gauge standing seam material. Ruddy managed the entire project onsite from start to finish. The craftsmanship of his crew along with the job quality was outstanding, including haul-off and clean-up. I highly recommend Ruddy Roofing â ¦ Scott, Mason County"

"It was raining and I noticed a leak in my roof. This company responded quick. The guy inspected the roof and found the problem. It was a cracked plastic vent. He put some silicone over the crack to temporarily stop the leak. He came back the next day and replaced the plastic vent with a metal vent. It is now raining hard outside and my roof is no longer leaking. Thank you Salvador Roofing."

Roofing questions, answered by experts

Fall is widely considered the best time of year to replace a roof. The moderate temperatures are ideal for roofing crews to work and for new shingles to seal properly. Additionally, autumn weather is often drier, reducing the risk of weather-related delays compared to the rainier spring season.

While spring is also a viable option, the higher chance of rainfall can slow down the project. The main drawback to a fall installation is that it's the peak season for roofers, which can lead to higher prices and scheduling challenges.

To potentially save money, you could consider scheduling your roof replacement during the summer or winter off-seasons. However, both seasons have significant disadvantages. Extreme summer heat can make shingles too soft to handle, while winter's cold, snow, and ice can create dangerous working conditions and prevent shingles from sealing correctly, as they typically require temperatures above 40-45°F.

Most roof leaks occur where shingles meet or where there are sealants or seams in the materials. This is common around skylights and at any point there is a break in the roof such as corners and edges. Roofing materials are incredibly strong and resistant when overlapping, but any change in that can cause gaps where water can enter.

A tarp can temporarily stop a roof leak, but how long the solution works heavily depends on the placement and size of the leak. While a tarp can be a temporary solution, it’s crucial to have a professional inspect and repair the leak as soon as possible to implement a permanent fix.

Thatched roofs last for between 30 and 50 years in most cases, which is longer than most asphalt roofs. However, getting that life span from your thatched roof requires more maintenance than you’d need for most other materials, including fireproofing, brushing, cleaning, and rethatching as the material gets worn down. You’ll also need routine inspections to ensure you’re not at risk of leaks.

A well-maintained tile roof can last anywhere from 40 to over 100 years, with its exact lifespan depending on the material and level of care. Proper maintenance, which includes keeping the roof clean, free of debris, and performing routine repairs for any cracked tiles, is crucial for longevity. The lifespan varies significantly by tile type:

  • Clay, terracotta, and slate tiles are highly durable and can last over 100 years.

  • Concrete tiles typically last from 30 to 100 years.

  • Metal tile roofs generally last between 40 and 70 years.

  • Composite tile roofs have a lifespan of 20 to 50 years.

Be aware that maintenance for a tile roof can sometimes be more expensive than for an asphalt roof.
