When I bought the ?deal? that was advertised, I wrote Alamow Lawns & Tree Service about the job; ?Dead tree in back yard. I was planning on cutting it down, using the bigger pieces for firewood and chipping the rest for use in my garden. I have overgrown hedges/bushes that need massive trimming...? Alamow wasn't very flexible nor accommodating in the scheduling of the visit for the services to be performed. The customer service at Alamow (when you could actually speak to a human) had an ?Up Yours!? attitude. When the 2-man crew from Alamow did finally show up (the next month) I walked my yard with the lead crewman and personally showed him and explained (in clear detail with precise specifics) what was to be done. As I had stated in my initial communication to Alamow, I wanted to chip/shred a dead tree in my back yard and use the wood chips in other parts of my yard. The crewman told me that they weren?t prepared to chip a tree, despite my having informed them upfront that that WAS the job. As a result, Alamow forced me to shift the focus of the work. The photinia shrubs that line my front yard on both sides were to be trimmed and shortened to a specific degree. I was clear that I needed to inspect the finished work after they were done, to make sure everything was successfully completed to the agreed-upon degree. The lead crewman stated that the amount of shrub trimming to be done was well within the scope of the advertised offer that I had pre-paid for. He even hinted that, since they would likely be finished very quickly, they?d give my other trees a ?once over? to round out the service visit. I went back inside my house, expecting to be contacted when the work was done. One hour later, I sent my daughter to offer the crew ice-water or tea. She came back upstairs, confused, and reported to me that the crew was gone. I went out to see the yard. The crew WAS gone. They had not notified me to inspect any completed work or to seek approval of work that was supposedly done; they simply left without notice. I walked the yard to see what they HAD done; almost nothing. They only trimmed the sides of the shrubs that are viewable from the front door of my house and hadn?t touched any of the 3 other sides. They left a fair amount of trimmings on the ground for me to clean up. All told, they did about 1/10 of the job that I paid for, abandoned the jobsite at some point well before an hour was up, and left a mess.
I called Alamow and complained. I was told that the owner would visit my property and personally inspect the job. That never happened. I was promised that they would send a crew back out to finish the job. They never happened. I asked for my money to be refunded. That never happened.
The conduct of Alamow, and their field crew, is a crime in Texas.
Under the Texas Penal Code, Sec. 32.42. DECEPTIVE BUSINESS PRACTICES (b) A person commits an offense if in the course of business he intentionally, knowingly, recklessly, or with criminal negligence commits one or more of the following deceptive business practices: (2) selling less than the represented quantity of a property or service; (7) representing that a commodity or service is of a particular style, grade, or model if it is of another; (8) advertising property or service with intent: (A) not to sell it as advertised, or (B) not to supply reasonably expectable public demand, unless the advertising adequately discloses a time or quantity limit;
(9) representing the price of property or service falsely or in a way tending to mislead; (10) making a materially false or misleading statement of fact concerning the reason for, existence of, or amount of a price or price reduction; or (12) making a materially false or misleading statement: (A) in an advertisement for the purchase or sale of property or service; or (B) otherwise in connection with the purchase or sale of property or service.
At this point, the only remedies are civil (a lawsuit in JP court for my damages and losses) and criminal; charges against the owner of Alamow for violating the Texas Penal Code and the Deceptive Trade Practices/Consumer Protection Act of the Texas Business and Commerce Code.
As a police officer and paralegal, I am equipped to defend myself against these kinds of criminal predators; for those Angie?s List members who don?t have these resources, STAY AWAY from Alamow Lawns & Tree Service.

It was promised to be done in 6 weeks and it was completed in 9 months. When completed the decking began to develop cracks within two weeks of completion. Cody Pools subcontractors came out and cosmetically covered up the cracks with more cool deck paint. To date we have 62 cracks on the deck. The gunite cracked twice and required the pool to be drained and re-plastered. It leaked and is still leaking. This was independently verified by a pool leak detection company. The over flow float value has stuck on multiple occasions and we can no longer leave it pressurized otherwise water just keeps running. When they did the construction every wall was crooked. The stairs were 2.5 inches on one side and 5 inches on the other. It was a joke. I went to arbitration as directed in the contract and the mediator had found our claims were justified but Cody's President objected and decided to submit there own findings. The President found a buddy of his who had a Professional Engineering license (This guy was a land surveyor with an arrest record for lying to the authorities and providing false names. He was no concrete expert but wrote a letter acting as if he knew something). The concrete deck on my pool is only 3.25 inches thick and does not meet industry standards nor does it meet the American Society of Pool standards which is 5". Cody Pools did not install any footings to keep the pool from shifting. The rim of the pool has no expansion joints thus each time the pools shifts the rim cracks. There are only a few expansion joints and they do not meet the minimum standards. I have a recording of the President of Cody Pools stating that his decking standards are 3" inches deep and that concrete cracks. Concrete may crack but that is what expansion joints are for. The documentation that was provided by Cody Pools President and was included as part of his respoinse to the objection states decking must be 5" thick. The mediator who was working for the BBB did a 180 degree turn around when the mediator learned the President of Cody Pools is a Director of the BBB and has been so for a long time. We were never told that the President of Cody Pools was a Director of the BBB otherwise we would have mediated elsewhere.We did not learn of this until after the 180 degree turn around on the decision by the mediator. What a perfect storm. A person who can have influence on his competition by finding faults with other pool builders and then capitalize because he can keep his ratng at the BBB artificially elevated. I would recommend to anyone building a pool make sure the company has it's own crews, (Cody Pools does not. They said they did. They had subcontracted everything out) make sure the pool builder is an authorized service provider for the equipment they are installing. (Cody Pool is not an authorize service provider for Pentaire the brand of pumps they install. I went to the Pentaire website to find someone to do a warranty repair and Cody Pools is not an authorized Pentaire service provider) and I would recommend the consumer try to remove the binding arbitration clause in their contracts.This really limits the consumers ability to make the Pool Builder build with quality. I may not of received anything but additional warranty time which was part of the solution by the mediator but I have successfully shown the quality of work done by Cody Pools to others which has caused them to to go to another pool builder even at a slightly higher price and I have been thanked by all of them. I have pictures,back ground investigations and recordings and can arrange a tour to prospective pool customers who are thinking of using Cody Pools as their builder. Think again or you will regret it shortly after your dream of owning a pool becomes a nightmare. Cody Pools knows that most people will only have to install a pool once it is not like you can throw it away and add another one so pleasing you is not on their list. Then I went to Foreign Affair Import Car Repair and Mac did a check on it. I did not tell him that I had just received a diagnosis from another garage. He said he didn't suspect a compressor problem because the car had less than 60,000 miles on it. After a thorough check out he said it was working fine and it could have been a sticking control door. Also he showed me how to detect a failing electromagnetic clutch should it fail. He fixed the A/C, but because he didn't know exactly what had been the problem told me that there was no charge. I have never before met someone with such honesty and integrity, and I will be his customer as long as he will work on my cars.

Mike - the sales guy was friendly and professional. We he came out to the house - he brought the AO Smith rep to talk about their system and help size the water heater. This wasn't a normal practice - but he was in the area and Mike brought him along for the initial visit. It did take a bit longer than I had anticipated to receive the quote ($4500) and it included a water sensor that was unexpected. The water sensor is a device that sits in the pan and if the system leaks or is purged, it has automatic shut off valve that prevent water from leaking in the basement. A great feature and recommended (if you don't mind paying the extra money for it). Once we agreed to the proposal, they dropped off the water heater in two weeks. We did have some challenges of getting the install started due to schedules and vacations - but we finally agreed to a day to have them do the install. The install took the entire day as they moved the water heater position in the basement to a better location and they needed to vent it outside. I paid for everything at the end of the install. The next day - I called because I wasn't getting enough hot water - it was sorta hot - but not HOT. They said there was a valve on the top of the water heater that I could adjust - which I did - but it was broken. I called back again, they were aware that the valve was broken and were planning on coming the following day to replace. (why they didn't tell me that before they left the install is beyond me). They replaced the valve - and the water was HOT - and everything worked great for about 2-3 weeks. Then we lost hot water. I went down to make sure everything was OK - and the water sensor had gone off because water had purged into the pan. I reset, soaked up the water, and it happened two more times. I called their service department on the weekend - and didn't get a call back. I called the sales guy 4 hours later and he returned my call in 20 minutes. Long story short - there was nothing wrong with the water heater- it was doing exactly what it was suppose to do. However, for some reason, the water pressure into the house had increased to 150 - over 2x times what it should be. When you have high water pressure and you are heat it the pressure will increase further and the water heater is designed to vent that extra pressure so it doesn't explode. Everything worked as it was suppose to. This is why didn't score them the highest on quality as I feel this is a test they should have performed before doing anything. It was a 20 second test and was very easy to complete. I also deducted for them not telling me about the broken valve before they left. It was great that they already had the part ordered and had scheduled a time to install - but they should have told me this so I wouldn't have called it in. Overall - the techs were great and was very knowledgable. They walked me thru everything which provided me a great understanding of what was going on in the system. Unfortunately, it was necessary to spend another $850 to fix the pressure (added an expansion tank and an adjustable valve which they only charged me their cost ($450 total) as they felt they should have caught this during the installation. I was pleased with their professionalism and the fact they cleaned up their mess (even wore booties when they were in the house). I would use them again - and their pricing is much more reasonable than Avon Plumbing.

First of all, Mr. David Hunt responded the same day to my initial phone inquiry about the company's products. He also came within 24 hours to do an estimate in writing and give me advice about the products that would meet my needs. He actually advised me to do a less expensive option, which is great value for the money and exactly met my needs. His crew turned up within 36 hours to take my existing screens to their workshop and replace the screening material with UAV blocking screening. They were back within 2 business days as agreed. The new screens were professionally done and they took great care to not damage the frames, which were special items with tabs that could easily have been broken. The job was fast, efficient, professional and well-done.
The product worked so well that I subsequently ordered screens for the windows across the back on my house. These had to be done differently to fit the windows and fit in with the color scheme of the house. Again, the StarShade crew gave me good advice and did a quick, professional job that looks great and does exactly what I needed the product to do as regards privacy and heat reduction. "On February 2nd we had a freeze all across Connecticut, our pipes bursted in 6 different places. I called every restoration company in 3 different states, and nobody had any openings for at least a month. Everyone was so overbooked because of the freeze. I remembered a company I've heard about, in San Antonio TX called canco restoration. I called and spoke to a man named Kenneth Barrett and asked if he would be able to help me. He told me he was more than willing to help us out! I called my insurance company USAA and got the go ahead for Canco to come out. The next day Kenneth, and his estimator flew out here to Connecticut. We got the estimation done, and that Saturday his whole team drove from san antonio TX to Connecticut. They were here for approximately 5 days, they worked fast and efficiently! The team did an incredible job with the water restoration and drying everything out. I couldn't of asked for a better company! CANCO is the best water restoration out here, hands down! The build back was incredible as well! My husband and I were able to be kept in the loop every step of the process! My house is 100% better than how it was before! The total cost of my restoration was 90,000. I feel truly blessed that Kenneth Barrett and his team could be of service all the way in Connecticut. If anyone needs water restoration work done, I absolutely believe CANCO is the best and only option!"

"I highly recommend these guys! We had a water leak in our kitchen cabinets that had been going on for some time and we didnt know about it. By the time we found out, alot of damage had been done. So we called OMG and wow, they came right out, removed the water damaged cabinets, salvaged and re-used the granite counters and even rebuilt or cabinets to match the existing. In fact, the new work looked so good, we had them paint the rest of the cabinets and now our Kitchen looks brand new! They also patiently worked with our insurance adjuster and were able to compromise on the scope of work so our claim was increased to accommodate the restoration work to our satisfaction. We worked with Dave over there, but all of their staff was very professional. They even have a design center for bigger projects. Thank you so much OMG Restorations!!!"

FAQs for radon detection and reduction projects in Selma, TX
If radon is present in your home, you can expect to pay around $1,000 for a radon mitigation system or between $780 and $1,250 in most cases. The exact price will depend on the severity of the radon leak, home size, and the protocol the radon specialist develops to remove radon from your home and keep it out. Your foundation type will also affect your radon mitigation system cost, as unfinished basements will cost about $4,600 to seal and ventilate, while crawl spaces without a foundation slab may need extra encapsulation, costing $1,500 to $15,000.
You can buy DIY radon test kits from a home improvement store and conduct radon testing, but these tests are often inaccurate. No matter the result, you should supplement DIY testing with professional radon detection and analysis. DIYers only have access to passive radon tests, which aren’t as reliable as active tests that professionals use. Plus, it’s very easy for DIYers to make mistakes during testing, leading to inaccurate results. If you’re moving into a new home, have concerns about radon, or are due for an updated test, hire a professional.
Radon testing costs depend on whether you hire a professional radon inspector or DIY test. You can expect to pay $150 to $800 to hire a local radon inspector, and home-testing kits range in price from $15 to $250 from home improvement stores. However, it’s best to trust a professional inspector with this task to ensure accurate results. Plus, if you have radon in your home, your testing company can develop a mitigation protocol to keep you and your family safe from the dangerous gas, so it’s well worth the money to hire a professional.
Yes, radon testing is absolutely necessary if you suspect the presence of this hazardous gas, and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) recommends testing for all homes in the country. Radon is a pervasive natural gas that can leak through your home’s foundation and seep into the living areas. Unfortunately, the gas is highly carcinogenic and is the second leading cause of lung cancer. Radon testing is crucial for keeping you and your family safe from harm, so hire a radon mitigation specialist to test your home if you suspect its presence in your home.
In most states, radon testing companies don’t need to be licensed or certified by the state, but the companies that analyze the test results and develop radon mitigation protocols do. You should choose a radon testing company that suits your needs, but before hiring a mitigation specialist, check our state licensing tool to make sure the company is properly certified.
