"In August 2022, after hearing about DFW Improved on a home improvement radio show, we entered into two contracts with them for a roof replacement and interior water damage repair. These contracts were based on insurance-approved scopes following the 2021 ice storm. DFW Improved began the roof replacement project first. Following the replacement, the roof continued to leak due to their failure to replace the flashings. Despite corresponding work items in the insurance scope (confirmed later by the insurance adjuster's email), the DFW Improved salesperson insisted that flashing was not part of the roof. He threatened legal action if further payment was not made. Prior to this, they presented two identical model shingles as choices, which their own roof subcontractor on-site disclosed. Upon our inquiry via email, instead of addressing the issue, the salesperson accused us of defaming their company. Furthermore, they quoted $900 for a non-existent siding hole and estimated $25,000 for a bookcase, which their own designer valued at $6,000 to $7,000. While the roof leaking issue was still unresolved, DFW Improved began interior work. Instead of submitting the agreed supplement request as agreed, they skipped necessary steps to cut water-damaged drywall. To prevent wasted effort, we instructed workers to stop. The salesperson responded, stating that workers would not proceed with any work not approved by insurance. However, he emailed the insurance company claiming that the work had already been completed, causing significant confusion for us. During the halt period, we sent out numerous issues such as broken air pipes, cracked roof rafters, missing insulation, roof holes, missing felt paper, and a leaking roof. However, we received no response other than prevaricate explanations and demanding for money. We escalated to the DFW Improved upper manager who responded that they are their best team members and disregarded our request for an alternative project team. DFW Improved abandoned the projects and warranties, and initiated separation in December 2022. Both parties engaged in negotiations over separation costs. During this process, DFW Improved unexpectedly sent four individuals to our house, claiming to inspect texture work and demanding payment. Subsequently, DFW Improved placed a lien on our house, and their lawyer sent a demanding letter stating they would auction our house and (quote)“sue Vigorously” if payment was not made, despite the mediation/arbitration clause clearly outlined in the contracts. Under this pressure, we filed a claim in Tarrant County Small Claims Court, where the lien was placed. Later, their lawyer filed a motion to transfer the case to Collin County, where DFW Improved is based. We refused to comply with a demand for $5,000 and the confidentiality requirement during mediation. DFW Improved filed a new case simultaneously in the higher Tarrant County District Court, demanding a new amount of $59,845 and seeking to enforce the lien, providing no explanation for this amount. According to their co-owner's email, their accounting book calculated that we owed them a total of $1,260 (detailed below). During pre-mediation discussions, their lawyer attempted to justify their request for $8k, citing that a significant portion was allocated to attorneys' fees. We did not engage their lawyer to send us a threatening letter containing false statements about suing us without mediation. Their lawyer also declined $65 public mediator service provided by the Tarrant Small Claims Court. Additionally, they unilaterally escalated the dispute to a higher court. We have never been late with their payments. In fact, DFW Improved made a math error by crediting the blind work twice. When we brought this to their attention, DFW Improved spent extra time correcting the invoice, and their salesperson initiated an internal investigation. Any delay was certainly not caused by us. DFW Improved filed a lien attempting to collect the costs again, despite already receiving payment. See the invoice they submitted, which completely overlooks the $35,895.76 payment we made (supported by our bank transactions). —-------------The payment schedule on the contract has major math errors—--------- Payments for the work are due as follows: Contract Total $ 194,972.33 $ 19,497.23 deposit is due at initial design meeting.(10% of the Contract Total) 20% of the Contract Total is due at the preconstruction meeting. 30% of the Contract Total is due at start of drywall repair. ←– we requested halt at this phase and according to texas property code Sec. 28.003. "The lawn clean-up went well, he talked me out of removing the pool and deck. I bought fencing supplies and hard ware to replace privacy fencing. After the fence was done decided not to have the wall repaired at this time. I paid $3000 down another $5000 once the cleanup was underway when finished I was suppose to pay an additional $7000 but accidentally wrote it for $8000 the contractor did not correct me or say anything. I don't feel that the services provided were worth the money paid"

Closets questions, answered by experts

When storing your clothes long-term, first consider the container's breathability. While plastic bags, cardboard boxes, or vacuum sealing may be great options for short-term storage, they won’t help your clothes hold up in the long term. Breathable plastic boxes and fabric bags help with airflow, prevent mold or mildew from building up, and allow proper airflow.

Since they are so fragile, it is not usually recommended to stack anything on top of your packed lamps. If you have sturdy boxes, and what you plan to put on top of them is of a similar weight, it’s okay to stack.

Different types of closets are defined mostly by size. A few different types of closets include:

  • A reach-in closet is a smaller closet that you can stand in front of and reach everything inside it. Aside from the size, the doors and the level of drywall finish are typically the largest price factors.

  • A walk-in closet can be anything from a small 5-by-5 feet closet that has a narrow walkway with shelves on both sides to a 100 square foot bedroom-sized closet with shelving along the walls and plenty of room to move around in.

  • A built-in wardrobe often does not have a door and leaves the clothes and other contents open to the room, whereas a closet usually has a door to separate it from the rest of the room.

A standard walk-in closet has dimensions of 7 feet by 10 feet at a minimum and an average of 100 square feet. Remember that the dimensions of the closet aren’t necessarily the usable space. This means that a 100-square-foot walk-in closet with shelves on each wall and an island may only have a walkable area of 50 square feet or less. Make sure you consider the effect of additions when you plan the room—mockups are a great idea.

Hanging and folding clothes are efficient ways to pack your clothes during a move. When choosing a packing method, consider the type of clothing you’re packing. For example, clothing such as dresses, suits, blouses, and items made of silk and similar fabrics are ideal for hangers. On the other hand, it’s easier to fold pants, shorts, t-shirts, thick sweaters, and more.
