"Miller and his colleagues were able to do a lot of things quickly. Along with everything else, they also grabbed some old furniture that I needed help moving to the curb. They took several cares to make sure nothing was damaged during the move, including wrapping the furniture, turning off all the lights, and packaging the picture frames."

"The foundation work was excellent.  Mark, the owner, had a team at our house in a timely manner.  They dug to bedrock and poured pilings.  They cleaned up after themselves and my husband I literally watched the cracks in our walls close.  It was amazing.  We found Mark to be professional and fair. I'd recommend his company to anyone.  That said, when we had a roof problem, we called Mark for a roofer recommendation. We were thrilled to learn that he was in the roofing business and again he came to our house promptly, gave us an estimate, and got to work.  The house has a flat roof, so not many are interested in the work.  Mark used a new product.  It's a foam base and works like a charm.  The roof has actually insulated the house, making it cooler in the summer and warmer in the winter.  Again, my husband and I were thrilled with the work ethic and the product."

"Very responsive, squeezed me in last minute at the end of their day on a Friday afternoon. The young lady that helped clean that day seemed a little under the weather to boot, but she toughed it out. Probably wasn't their best work given the circumstances, but we'd have them back. Thanks! :)

"I have dealt with a lot of contractors over the years but none have been as thorough and professional as Chip! It was a pleasure working with him. Fantastic job at a price I couldn’t pass on. Chip and crew has a work ethic I haven’t seen in a long time. If you need some work done give Chip a call. He delivers great results at a fair price and the finished results are incredible."

Garbage Collection questions, answered by experts

You may be able to install a garbage disposal on your own, especially if you're handy or have some experience with plumbing. However, if you have any concerns or want to make absolutely sure that the connections are installed correctly, you may be better off hiring a local garbage disposal installer to do the job.

When a dishwasher discharges its wastewater, it uses a pump to quickly move a lot of water. If anything in the drain line or the garbage disposal impedes the high volume of water, it will back up into the sink through the drain or the garbage disposal. Following regular dishwasher maintenance tips like clearing clogs, keeping them cleared, and occasionally running the disposal will eliminate the problem.

These appliances certainly increase the number of things allowed down the drain, but they’re not foolproof. There are several items you shouldn’t put in your garbage disposal, according to manufacturers and technicians. Don’t put coffee grounds down the drain. The same goes for eggshells, potato peels, hard foods, onion skins, and any dry, expandable food. Most importantly, never put grease or oils down the drain.

These appliances do unscrew, but you need to disconnect everything properly when you replace your garbage disposal. Make sure you shut the power off to the area first and check that it’s off with a voltage detector. Disconnect the main drain line and P-trap, and then disconnect the dishwasher drain line if you have one connected. You can then unscrew your garbage disposal using a disposal wrench. Just make sure you disconnect the electrical lines before removing your appliance.

On average, a garbage disposal can last anywhere from 7 to 12 years, with many models functioning well for about 10 years. With heavy usage, a motor may last a minimum of five years, while grinding plates will wear down over time. It's generally a good idea to consider a replacement if your unit is approaching the 10-year mark. Other signs that it's time for a new disposal include frequent leaks, persistent clogs, lingering odors, lack of power, or unusual noises. If your unit is not that old, it's worth investigating if a less expensive part, like a rubber seal or a loose hose, is causing the issue.
